Who could have done this to him?. He bowed his head not from shame but from the stress he has been through since these drama started. He hasn't dreamt the day will go this way. There were whispers all around and he couldn't stand the sound. He stood up to leave but then he was approached by Aaliyah.
"Aaliyah" he called out feeling guilty of ruining her wedding reception.
Without a word, Aaliyah slapped him. She made sure all the anger she was feeling went into the slap.
"This is for hurting my friend."
"And this......" She slapped him again "is for lying to me."
"Mike" He called out to his friend for help but he shook his head not wanting to anger his bride more than she is now.
"I am sorry man. I warned you. I cannot help you now."
"Oh shut up you jerk! you were all in this together. You helped him hurt Emily even after I told you about her history with trust and men. I am so done with you. I want a divorce.!"
"But Aaliyah you can't do that you just got married." Her dad jumped in to the defense of his son-in-law.
"I sure can dad. People get divorced even mere seconds after they get married."
"Baby I am sorry but I didn't help him. He told me he liked her but I warned him to stay away from her."
"Then you could have told me but you lied squarely in my face at the hospital when I asked both of you what was going on."
"I am sorry baby please ....."
"I am out of here. There is no point being here anyway since this marriage has ended." She maneuvered through the crowd that has formed around them in a quest to go find her friend.
"Aaliyah where are you going?" her mother asked in dismay. She never imagined her daughter's wedding would turn out this way. Everything was going perfectly fine until that video.
"Going to look for my friend."
She knew Emily will be broken and weak now and needed to be the shoulder she would cry on. She wasn't able to support her five years ago but she is available now.
"We are coming with you." Her bride's maids who have become fond of Emily declared ready to follow her where ever she goes.
"Thank you girls but I have to do this alone. I know she is hurt right now so I cannot take any one with me. She hates crowds and doesn't like people seeing her vulnerable." She spared a glance at Shawn then at Mike whose heads were bowed before taking off.
***SHAWN'S POV***
There was no words that could explain how I was feeling right now. I couldn't come to terms that I have lost Emily for good and the most shameful part was that someone recorded us and decided to have fun with it by playing it at the wedding. I felt bad and guilty of hurting the people around me because of my selfish act. First Emily then Aaliyah and Mike. The look Mike was sending my way was of anger and regret. It was like he wanted to strangle me. Damn! I even wanted to strangle me. But who could have done this?. Who hated me this much to do this to me?. I was not thinking about my self but Emily. I know I have hurt her pretty bad but people knowing about us would hurt her more. Imagine everyone knows the secrets that you always wanted to keep a secret. My phone started ringing and I saw it as an opportunity to escape this dirty stares I was receiving. The crowd has dispersed but there were people who have gathered to gossip about what was happening.
"Hello!"
"Father Fritswald please come to the parish office now!"
***TIME SKIP***
"Father Fritswald, according to videos circulating around, we have found you guilty of breaking your oath. And to us, it's an abomination. What were you thinking, that we would never know? Having kids or a relationship whiles you are a priest is totally against our belief .It's disrespectful to our dear Lord and it's highly punishable. So from today, We strip you of your tittle and duty, you can now do what ever you like. You are to leave the church premises tomorrow morning and you must make sure you take your belongings along with you. We want to prepare the place for the new Priest that will be coming in."
The head of the priests Father Johnson said in one go without allowing me to talk. They took the video as evidence enough to strip me of my tittle. He didn't even let me explain myself . That, together with the 'you are a sinner' stares they were giving me angered me. I stood up without their permission and dash off through the doors. Those old men behave like righteous men but I know they are not. Mioments later, I came back to the office deciding to put them in their places.
"Have you all forgotten we are humans and we are prone to sin and pleasure?"
"We are not just any humans. We are priests and we must be righteous every time."
"Oh quit this Father Lither, I saw you with that woman and her kid which was yours right?"
There was this discomfort that made him bow his head making the rest turn their gaze to him.
"And you father Gonzalez, the young maiden you raped confessed to me. You dirty old man. You disgust me!" Father Lopez who sat next to Father Gonzalez started shaking thinking it was his turn.
"No need to panic Father Lopez. I won't tell them how you were money laundering with the offering and tithes and you father Johnson, I saw you stumbling last Friday. You were drown in alcohol weren't you?"
"Good news Father Moore, I haven't forgotten how you abused your assistant and nearly killed her because you accused her of stealing your money...sorry the money you stole from the church."
At the end of my confession, they all had their head bowed out of shame. Father Matheo was the only one who looked shocked at the revelations. I have stayed under the supervision of Father Matheo but I have not seen even a single wrong he has done. Yet, I was able to know the evil deeds of this evil old men even though they tried as much as possible to conceal it.
"You should all see your faces. You had the guts to point out my sins but didn't have the guts to accept your own. I am glad you have stripped me off my tittle because I was about quitting anyway." I left them dumbfounded in the office but I knew I have created a huge chaos. Once outside, I breathed in the cool night air relived that I have some weight lifted off me.
