I groaned. Walking aimlessly through hallways with giant turtles with spikes on their shells. Again. How come everytime we almost escape, these freaks have to be here to rain on our rescue party?! Is this what Mario has to deal with all the time?
My thoughts were interrupted when I noticed a large rose-gold door with a small window. We marched closer to the window, and that's when I saw her. Princess Peach hollered and pounded on the glass. She shouted at Toadette, but then her eyes fell on me. Her features softened and she stopped struggling for a second. I stared back at her, our eyes locked.
"Move it!"
I heard a gruff demand and felt a strong push from behind.
" Ok, ok, I'm going, alright?!" I shouted in annoyance.
I then dropped my voice to a volume only I could hear.
"We're comin', Princess."
We walked in silence until I decided to speak.
" So you're taking us to the dungeons, I assume?" I asked
I heard Iggy snicker behind me.
" Oh, no. We have a special place for defiant prisoners."
I swore I could hear Toadette gulp.
We walked for a little while longer until we finally reached a dark hallway. We stepped inside and the lights flickered on. I squinted my eyes. The lights were so dim, you hardly needed them. I could just barely make out the outline of a door at the end of the hallway. We walked down the ill-lit hallway and approached the door. It was wooden and old. It creaked open with a nasty shriek. Toadette and I were shoved into the room and the door was slammed shut behind us. I took a deep breath, but quickly coughed it back out when my nose was met with a musty smell. I coughed more to try and get the moisture out of my lungs, but it was no use. The smell of mold lingered around us.
" Where are we, a basement or something?!" I said between coughs.
Toadette didn't answer me.
" Well, wherever we are it smells like death." I said jokingly, trying to lighten the mood.
I felt Toadette's pudgy hand grab my arm. She leaned in close to me.
" If we're where I think we are, then we're in deep sludge."
" Wh-What do you mean?" I asked, worriedly.
The door burst open again. I heard heavy footsteps around us and the click of a light switch. I shut my eyes, trying to get used to the new lighting. I opened them and immediately wished that I hadn't. I scanned the room, my eyes falling on torture weapons of every kind. I shut my jaw and swallowed hard. I heard laughter from the other side of the room. I turned to see Toadette struggling against her bonds as Larry and Iggy tied her down to a table. I gasped and tried to jump up and save my friend, but I was stopped when two hands grabbed my shoulders.
" And where do you think you're going?"
I tried to turn around, but I was only met with a face-full of blue hair. That can only mean one thing. I struggled against his grip, but I was no match.
" What's the rush? Don't you want to stay?" He asked me serenely.
I squirmed as he took my handcuffs above my head and hung me from the ceiling by my wrists.
" Aw, thanks, Bach, but I'm not really in the mood to hang out with someone who's hair is bigger than my will to live!" I spat, trying to free myself from the handcuffs.
He put his hands on his hips and I swore I could hear a growl. I smirked. Yes, that's good. Get under his skin. Don't let your guard down.
" I appreciate the references to classical musicians, so I'm guessing you already know my name."
I didn't say anything. We glared at each other, my blue eyes locked with his dark ones. I broke off the staring contest when I heard a shriek come from Toadette. I twisted in my chains, trying to swing myself towards her.
" GET AWAY FROM HER, YOU FREAKS!" I hollered.
Larry slowly turned to face me. He looked blinded with anger. My confidence started to diminish.
" Uh oh"
He gritted his teeth and walked over to me slowly.
" You've had an awfully dirty mouth."
He whipped out his wand and held the tip to my neck.
" Someone ought to let you know your place!" He growled.
I gasped and shut my eyes tight. Before he could do much damage, I heard a loud noise come from the direction of the door. Everyone yelped in surprise and I heard a loud hissing sound. I opened my eyes to see thick yellow smoke start to cloud the room. Everybody coughed and hacked the nasty substance out of their lungs. I trained my eyes toward the door and saw a round shadow emerge from the smoke. I squinted my eyes and gasped. I grinned to myself. I'd recognize that lemon-head anywhere. Toadette shouted at Pearl in excitement whilst trying to free herself. Pearl stepped forward to face the three Koopas in the room. He cleared his throat.
"Pearl's my name, rescuing is my game. Now hand over those ladies before I hand you a world of hurt!"
Something bright in the palm of his hand caught my attention. I looked back at him and realized that he did look a little different. The spots on his head, which were normally a pristine shade of white, were a bright red. Same for his outfit, too. I strained my eyes and squinted harder through the smoke and realized that a small flame flickered in the middle of Pearl's palm. I turned my head to face the three Koopa brothers. Larry scoffed.
" Oh yeah? Well there's three of us, and one of you. I'm sure you can do the ma-"
Pearl balled up his fist and shot his hand in Larry's direction. Larry yelped and jumped into Iggy's arms as the red fireball barely missed him. Iggy put Larry down and reached inside his shell to retrieve his wand. Larry reached to do the same. Only he froze, and began to frantically pat himself down.
" No no no no!"
I cocked my head and then looked at the ground. I gasped as I saw the silver and orange catalyst laying on the ground just below my feet. I struggled against my chains and tried my best to latch on to the wand with my feet. The tip of my foot touched the bright orange orb that was attached to the wands' tip. I stretched out my other foot and trapped the wand between the tip of my shoes. I held it tight and lifted it off of the ground. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Larry start to dash towards me. In despair, I lifted my legs and flung the wand across the room. It clattered to the ground with a nasty crash. Larry gasped and slapped his hands over his mouth. He dropped them back to his side and slowly turned to face me. He was seething with anger. I smiled nervously.
" He he. Uh, I can pay for that."
He opened his mouth to speak, but the only thing that came out was a
" YEEOUCH!!"
He quickly ducked into his shell and started spinning around the room. I saw Pearl standing behind him with an outstretched hand, smoke emitting from his palm. Nice! He must have got him! Larry's shell zipped around the room like blue lightning. He sped straight towards his brothers. Iggy gasped and jumped out of the way, but Ludwig, same story, different ending. Ludwing was knocked right on his butt. In anger, he reached out and snatched Larry's shell from off of the floor. Larry popped his head out and shook it. He turned to look at Ludwig and smiled weakly. Ludwig rolled his eyes and dropped his brother on the ground. He got up and rubbed the back of his shell in frustration.
" Watch where you're going, idiot." He said in that smooth voice I adore.
Larry chuckled bashfully and got up off of the floor. The trio of brothers turned their attention back to Pearl. The headstrong toad stood his ground, another flame present in his palm.
" Any other takers?"
Ludwig stepped forward and waved his hands in the air.
" Ok, ok, we'll let them go."
Papes' flame disappeared and he cocked an eyebrow.
" Really?"
Ludwig quickly reached for his wand and shot it towards Pearl. A burst of light surrounded him and he was suddenly bound with a magical cord. Ludwig chuckled.
"Of course not!"
Pearl struggled against the cord as the eldest Koopaling approached him.
" Now, what we're going to do is-"
" PLAN B!"
Everyone's attention was directed towards the ceiling. Suddenly, a purple figure crashed down on top of the blue-haired opera-sounding reptile. My jaw dropped to the floor as I watched Nabbit get off of Ludwig and start to untie Pearl. Pearl grunted and dusted himself off.
" I didn't need your help." He said through a frown.
" It's alright, you can thank me later!" Nabbit huffed as he made his way over to Toadette.
Iggy and Larry stepped over their brother's fallen body and stepped towards Nabbit. Nabbit whipped his head around to see the approaching danger.
" Well don't just stand there, ward them off for me!" Nabbit hollered in Pearl's direction.
Pearl grumbled and started shooting fireballs at the pair. Both brothers ducked into their shells and started spinning around the room. Pearl dashed towards me, hopping over a few close-calls on the way. He unhooked my handcuffs from the ceiling and grabbed the chain that connected the two cuffs. He wrapped his hands around it and shut his eyes tight. Before I could realize what he was doing, the metal started to heat up and melted onto the floor.
" Ok, let's move!" Pearl shouted at Nabbit who was helping Toadette off of the table.
He grabbed my hand and all four of us sprinted out of the room without looking back.Yeahhhh Boi I'm back from the dead 🤟. I'm currently working on an x reader story so keep on the lookout!
Whoops, had to edit this because I accidentally typed 'Papes' instead of 'Pearl' 😗
