Well, let's see.. Parrish was set on fire, Scott drugged me out of my comfortable couch with Brett.. Scotts Okay thankfully and now he's talking to Derek.
"He covered you in gasoline?" Derek asked Parrish as he looked at his hands.
"It's the hair and nails, isn't it? The parts of the body that are essentially dead."
"Well, they should be gone." Derek told Lydia in a duh tone.
"I was set on fire. All of me should be gone."
"Not if you're like us." Scott said referring to the other two supernatual creatures.
"Like you?"
"I don't think he's like us."
"Then what is he?"
"Sorry, but I have no idea."
"But you knew about Jackson and Kira."
"This is a little out of my experience. There might be something in the bestiary. Did you try Argent?"
"I don't know where he is."
"I think I might know." They all looked at me confused. "Not about Chris, but about him." The looked at me shocked.
"How do you know anything about him that I don't know?"
"Because I did my homework. Any supernatural creature that deals with fire, he could be a hellhound. Or a Chimera. If you're wondering, hellhounds supernatural dog in folklore. A wide variety of ominous or hellish supernatural dogs occur in mythologies around the world. Features that have been attributed to hellhounds include mangled black fur, glowing red eyes, super strength and speed, ghostly or phantom characteristics, and a foul odor. But since you're not like Scott or Derek, nor Lyds. You might just light on fire and have red orange eyes. A Chimera is a monstrous fire-breathing hybrid creature of Lycia in Asia Minor, composed of the parts of more than one animal. It is usually depicted as a lion, with the head of a goat protruding from its back, and a tail that might end with a snake's head. And sometimes you can create your own, if you want to ruin the supernatural law. It's different supernatural creatures in one human or animal, like the head of Goat and the body of a lion and the but of a snake." They all looked at me shocked. "What? I read." I saw Lydia smile for a second... oh, she said the same thing to Ali about a position of a crossbow. "But, you're not a kanima nor were-coyote, or kitsune, not even y'all. It could be in the bestiary." They nodded their heads at me.
"Okay, hold on. What's a bestiary? Actually, that's not even my first question. Just... Just tell me one thing. Are all of you like Lydia? Are you all psychic?"
"Psychic?"
"Yeah. Not exactly."
"Okay. Then what are you?" He looked at me for a second.
"Oh, I'm human. Me and Sti are the humans of the group. Well besides Chris and mum and Sti's dad." He looked at Scott and Der. I know Dereks losing his powers, which is probably why he coudln't figure it out. But Imma keep it to my self, Der looked at Scott before Scotty flashed his eyes. We told him as much as we could explain.
"What's a Kanima?"
"We'll get back to that. Just know that everyone like us, everyone with some kind of supernatural ability is on the dead pool."
"But I don't even know what I am."
"I'm pretty sure they don't care."
"How many professional assassins are we talking about?"
"We're starting to lose count."
"But is it still just professionals?"
"I don't think Haigh's ever tried anything like this. I think he was taking a chance."
"That means anyone with the dead pool could take a chance."
"But if Haigh had it, then who else does? How easy is it to get this thing now?" Derek sighed.
"Lyds, you said you found a code at you're grandmothers lake house, right?" I asked her, she nodded her head.
"Meredith was only at my grandmother's lakehouse once. But I think once was enough."
"How did your grandmother know her?"
"She didn't. She found her. Because of another woman named Maddy. The woman she loved." Lydia sighed before looking at us. "I never met her, but I saw her name everywhere. She used to be part of a yacht racing team. There were plaques and trophies in the lake house from all the regattas she'd won."
"How did she die?"
"How's not the story. It's what happened right before. My grandmother, Lorraine, used to work in San Francisco for IBM. She was there on a weekend, catching up on work. She started hearing this sound... Like rain. But when she looked out the windows... All she saw was blue sky."
"But she kept hearing the rain?"
"And it just kept getting louder. Rain and thunder cracking like gunshots in her head. So loud. She finally just screamed."
"Like a Banshee."
"She called Maddy who was planning on taking one of the boats out on the lake. But Maddy said that the sun was shining there too. So Lorraine didn't say anything."
"There was an accident?"
"It took them four days to find Maddy's body. And then it took decades to figure out how Lorraine knew. She started with parapsychologists, like the PhD in their name made it more scientific. They built the study in the lake house according to every pseudoscientific theory they could find. None of it worked. So then she started going to more extreme occult. Things like mediums and psychics All of them were failures. Until she found Meredith. They found her in Eichen House. This fragile girl who didn't understand the things she heard. They brought her to the study. And they almost killed her. She was hospitalized for over a year. She... never really recovered. My grandmother drove her insane I drove her to suicide. And all she ever wanted to do was help. My grandmother created the code for the dead pool. They think she's the Banshee who put the names out in the first place. She left me this message in the same code."
"But she didn't leave a cipher key, did she?" Lydia shook her head at Scott's question. Parrish took Lyds home. Scott took me home.
"Hey, Erza. You okay?" Da asked as he answered the door.
"Not really. There's alot going on... and people are dying all around me. I just I can't..."
"Hey.. hey... it's okay." He looked back at Brett, worried. "Hey, Brett." He turned back to me and pulled me into his arms.
"Erzy?" I turned into his arms. "Woah, are you okay?"
"We're going to head out Sweets. I hope you feel better Erza. You're always welcome to stay." Brett nodded at da before turning to me.
"I'm not fearless. I'm terrified... I'm always terrified. We're just a bunch of teenagers. We can't handle this. I... I act like I know what I'm doing, but I don't. I don't know if Derek is dying right now. I don't know if I made a mistake with Scott. I don't know what my dad is thinking. I don't know if we should trust Peter. I don't know... I don't know anything. They're all gonna die aren't they? How am I supposed to help anyone when I'm like this? What am I supposed to do?" Brett pulled me into a kiss.
"Hey, Derek is going to be fine, okay? You and Scott, siblings argue, then they make up. Trust us. And I know one thing, you are so strong, you are fearless, you tired to take down an assassin. You are the strongest person I know. You're incredibly beautiful, and I know... that I love you. I'm scared too, Erzy. No one is going to die, okay? Right now you need to breath and calm down. Then we'll figure out how to help tomorrow. Right now, just be here with me." I looked up at Brett.
"I love you too, Brett. What are you scared about?"
"Losing you. You're all I got, I'm not ready to lose you, Erzy. I already lost one my ex's.. I don't want to lose the love of my life too."
"Brett... I'm right here." He smiled at me before kissing me.
"I love you, do you wanna watch a movie and cuddle?"
"I love you, too. I would love to, let's go." He laughed at my Childress and dragged me to the room.
