Okay, so this was for a school assignment. We had to rewrite the famous balcony scene between Romeo and Juliet. Ari (Tumblr user shewearsafakesmile) and I wanted to make it something that would be memorable, so, like all of the best work out there, we made it gay. Alex is Romeo, Jack is Juliet, and Rian is the nurse from the scene. I've never done play writing before, so it was a challenge and I doubt I'll be doing it again anytime soon, but we're both pretty proud of it. :)

This was also kind of based on two songs: Somewhere in Neverland (All Time Low) and The Balcony Scene (Pierce the Veil). We used a lot of the lyrics from them as inspiration.

Also, I think a lot of the stuff sounds crazy, but it's actually just Shakespeare with a little Jalex twist, I promise.

Jack is sitting in a tree at the edge of his property. His phone is quietly playing The Balcony Scene by Pierce the Veil. Alex has accidentally trespassed on Jack's land while taking a late night walk.

Jack: (Singing under his breath, staring into the sky) Can we lose our minds and call it love for the last time?

Alex: (Leaning against the tree Jack is sitting in) Why doesn't anyone understand our love? Don't they see that keeping us apart just hurts both of us? (The music from Jack's phone becomes louder, alerting Alex he is not alone.) Who's in the tree? It must be Jack! No one else would be out here at this time. My beauty, my love. How would I ever be so lucky to steal his heart? Jealousy is an ugly color on anyone who looks at my love, wishing they had him. Why am I any different? Oh, how I wish he knew my feelings for him. His eyes, they're so beautiful; they say all his words can't. But, no, these words are not mine to find. He speaks to the sky, not me. How I wish I was his phone, held safely, warmly in his hands, listening to his every thought voiced.

Jack: Oh my gosh.

Alex: (hushed) He's speaking! Please, continue. Your voice alone could keep my company for the rest of my days. You look so beautiful in the moonlight, it suits you. Then again, you look good in any light.

Jack: (Beginning to cry) Why, oh why? Why does it have to be you, my Alex? I could have any girl in the world, but I fall for you. No one in this town could possibly accept us, not even our own blood. Run away with me; we can go to a place without our families, where being together wouldn't mean certain death. We can start over, change our names so they'll never find us. It'll be a better reality.

Alex: (Under his breath) Maybe I should tell him I'm here...

Jack: This is our parents' problem, not ours. They can say what they want, but they can't stop us from being in love. Oh, Alex, I will change anything for you, restart my life for you. Our names, our houses are not tied to our love. I would think nothing less if our names were Dumb and Dumber. I'll give you my life.

Alex: (To Jack) I'll change my name right now if it makes you happy, my love.

At this, Jack is alarmed and falls from his perch in the tree, falling onto Alex and knocking them both to the cool, dew-covered grass. They stand up and brush themselves off. Jack engulfs Alex in a hug, thrilled to see him.

Jack: Alex? What are you doing here: listening to my secrets?

Alex: I missed your touch, my love. I missed seeing your face and being in your presence. And no, my intention was not to listen to your secrets, but since I have, you must know that I would do anything for you. Call me whatever you'd like; from the moment I saw you tonight at the bowling alley, I knew I would love you forever. If it tears us apart, I hate my name.

Jack: Wait, how'd you even get here? My parents forbade you from seeing me! I wouldn't be surprised if they killed you for being here!

Alex: Nothing, not land or sea, not life or death, not anything in existence can keep me from being with you. Not now, not ever. I won't leave you until you force me away. Don't worry about me, I'm good at hiding. I will risk my life to love you.

Jack: (Staring at the ground, blushing) But what could I possibly give to you that would make me worthy of this love? I would give anything to be your other half.

Alex: Your promise and declaration of love is all I need.

Jack: You've had my love since the first word you said to me. If you need it again, I'll give it to you every day for the rest of eternity.

Rian: (His voice sounds far off, but is coming closer) Jack! Your mother wants you to come inside; it's late!

Jack looks between Alex and the direction of Rian's voice, knowing he must leave before Rian reaches the tree they're under and sees Alex. Quickly kissing Alex's cheek, he turns away and runs to Rian.

Jack: (Almost running into Rian) I'm coming, I'm coming. Wait! I forgot something back at the tree. Tell mom I'll be back in a minute. (He runs back to Alex before Rian can react)

Alex: (A look of pure bliss on his face) Jack? What is it, love?

Jack: One thing, there's one more thing I need for you. Don't react when I tell you, though. Just let me explain. If you really do love me, marry me. (Quickly taking Alex's phone from his pocket and entering his own number) Text me and we can figure this out, but I can't stand another day without being bound to you in matrimony. We can run away and find a place where it's legal for us to get married. When you are truly mine we'll start our life off plain and simple, with great times and far better people, people who accept us for who we are. Then, those late nights we spend together, we'll talk about our parents and how we won't make the same mistakes as them, feuding over frivolous things. I know it sounds crazy, but don't you see what you do to me? I promise if you're with me, say the words and we'll find a way for this to work.

Alex: Yes, yes! Give me the night to come up with a plan, and I'll text you tomorrow and we can figure this out.

Jack's phone rings, piercing through the quiet night. The caller ID says it's Rian.

Jack: Rian? Yes, I'm fine...It was stuck in the tree...no, I don't need help...tell her to calm down, I'm fine! Yes, I'll be back in ten minutes. (Turning his attention back to Alex) Now, I really have to go. Remember to text me as soon as you have a plan!

Alex: How would I ever forget? I won't sleep tonight if that means being yours truly by tomorrow. I will let you know by nine tomorrow morning, I promise. (Placing a hand on Jack's cheek) Sleep well, my beaut. Pretend I'm with you and that we're already gone to somewhere in Neverland, where they'll never find us. I love you.

In a moment of bravery, Alex leans toward Jack and their lips meet in a chaste kiss.

Jack: (starstruck) G-Goodnight, Alex. I-I love you too.

Jack runs off as another voice calls his name, his mother this time. Both boys have a smile on their face for the rest of the night, a smile that couldn't be knocked off by anything that came their way.
