Chapter 4

Take off

By the time we got to the Airport, it was full of future plane passengers waiting for their plane to start boarding.

Mom and Ben were holding hands while Felicity and I sat adjacent to each other in the waiting area, with her spare hand, Mom was into one of her drama books, Pride and Prejudice, this time I think. Ben had his head in a old and battered

Car and Driver, the occasional murmur from Mom was constant, every few minutes she would read out a line from underneath her short breath.

My mind kept on tracking back to when I told Dad I was going to Masonville with Mom and Ben, his face flooded with tearstears I caused.

A voice came over the intercom it broke the silence between us all

“Flight 6/25 please go to gate 6, Flight 6/25 please go to gate 6, Thank you.”

“That’s us.” Mom said excitedly.

My face stayed vague while mom dragged me from my seat and walked with me through airport security.

The flight was exhausting, it took all the energy out of mom and me, Ben called us as the plane touched down in Seattle.

“Zombie…wake up little zombie, come on babe. That’s my girl, good morning.”  Mom said quietly.

“Huh?” I said sluggishly.

“We have touched down in Seattle, we just need to get a taxi now and we will be in Masonville in two hours if you can get up!” mom mentioned ecstatically.

“Oh yeah, forgot about that.” I lied.

Two hours later, we were in Masonville a small town just outside of Seattle. It was 11 in the morning and the town was humming with the general hubbub of scattering people.

The town centre was small and crowded and our new house was on the other side of town. Great.

As we slid our way through the throng of people, they turned to look at us, as if we were food. Must get that thought out of my head.

One boy turned to look at me, a puzzled look played across his face as I walked past, his gaze continued to focus on me as I disappeared into the crowd.

We got to the house at midday it was large and looked welcoming, could not wait to see my room.

**

Once again, I woke up stiff and hurting from a night on the floor,

It was my first Day in a new school so I had no time to sympathize myself; I had to get to school. Plaid T-shirt, black skinny jeans and my converse seemed a good outfit choice, something simple. I ran down the 2 flights of stairs and into the kitchen where mom, Ben and felicity resigned I grabbed some toast and started to head out the door when mom called me back into the kitchen.

“Sam. Where are you going?”

“School.  Where else?”

“Oh, okay then.”

I headed out the door with no interruptions this time and headed to my decrepit truck, mom had my truck brought over with us. I thank her for that.

The school wasn’t that hard to find, it was probably the biggest building in the whole town.

I drove into the school parking lot and pulled into an empty space, as I pulled on the brake my truck backfired, the boys and girls in front of the truck giggled, I pulled the key from the ignition and slid out the truck embarrassed.
