Chapter 5
Expressive weirdness
I was walking when I heard something behind me, I didn’t turn because I’ve seen this part of the movie before. The person who turns to see what it is gets killed first.
But I still turned, disowning my own reasonable instincts, I turned with my eyes closed, I opened them to see…nothing. Nothing? I ran all this way from nothing. shows how brave I am I was probably running from a pigeon or a squirrel. I turned to walk away and there he was.
I gasped for air I was shot bolt upright on my mattress.
“It, was, a, dream.” I said in-between breaths
I looked outside of my window. It was still dark. It was light before I regained my ability to breathe properly, If I could remember, it was a Saturday and I think I had plans with Lucy, she wanted to drag me, kicking and screaming into the mall to get some “Stylish clothes.”
I got dressed into my Purple checked shirt, my white skinnies, and my Vans, as I got to the door I grabbed my keys and a thick jacket, just in case and headed out.
It was snowing as I climbed into the truck, good call with the coat, and started it. My mom got a repair person and got it sorted, and he said it is on the way out, but I don’t care.
I got this truck off my dad, and this is the only thing of him I’ve got left to remember him by.
I got to Lucy’s house at nine am, she was there waiting for me, she waved as I pulled up, she was in her trade mark pink top and mini skirt combo with white snow boots and a hot pink snow jacket to match.
“So do you like?” Lucy asked me as she twirled around.
“It’s very, pink?”
“That’s the whole idea! Oh, before we go, there is a new film in the cinema about a forbidden love between an ordinary girl and a vampire, want to go watch it while we are there?” Lucy exclaimed excitedly.
“Yeah sure, I feel in the mood for a bit of romance and mythical creatures.” I said unimpressed.
“Jeez, Sam. I only asked. Do you want to go see a Horror? Comedy?”
“If I say Horror will you shut up?”
Lucy looked at me in disbelief; she sank into the seat and faced the window.
5 minutes of silence passed by until Lucy broke it with an excited squeal.
...So. What is with you and Liam Monroe hey? Cassy saw you two groping each other in the abandoned hallway near gym class.” Lucy said as she nudged me.
“Nothing! And we didn't grope! (At least I didn't think we we're), we are just two friends.” I said sternly as if trying to make myself believe as well.
“Yeah right. A boy and a girl cannot be friends without something happening. If you know what I mean.”
“I you are insinuating I have slept with Liam your wrong.”
I am not insinuating, I just saying one day it WILL happen you know, it’s fate.” She said while winking.
“Well, you’re wrong anyway.”
Darlin' Nikki was playing on my player and Lucy reached for the volume knob on the stereo, as she got her hand on it I swatted it away, she slumped in her seat defeated, scowling furiously, picking at the spilling contents of the car’s seat.
By the time we got to the mall, it was twenty past nine and the early bird shoppers had infested the mall, as soon as we pulled into a parking space Lucy sat bolt upright in her chair.
“Come on Samantha, do you want to miss the movie?” shouted Lucy with an upbeat tone to her voice.
“So now you’re not a moody bitch like before?”
“Oh come on Samantha stop taking the hump about before, plus I think you two would suit. But anyway, let’s go see the movie and get you some clothes that weren’t all the rage in the 70’s, come on!
“...May as well go now, seeing that we are here.”
We headed into the cinema-plex, Lucy with a bounce in her step and me heavily laden with soda and popcorn, she looked at the billboard displaying all of movies, she placed her perfectly manicured finger on one. “A murder on Claret Street.”….enticing name.
As we came to the Screen 4 of the cinema, the Usher stopped us and asked for us to produce ID, I handed over my drivers licence and Lucy placed her passport into his hands, he looked at her first and gave it back to her. Lucy got her ticket and went inside.
Me however was stalled. He looked at the licence queerly and looked back at me.
He then gingerly placed it back into my hands, printed off my ticket and let me go inside.

Lucy hid behind some buff guy's arm for most of it. I was sat beside some couple practically screwing each other. Nothing like a bit of mass murder and snuff to get the blood pumping huh?
To some it up, it's like every shit movie these days, it was filled with big busted blondes dying mid sex scene, screaming for help or running up the stairs to get away from the killer.
Am I one of the few people that find going up the stairs to flee the killer redundent? Run out the fucking door you slut, keep running until your implants pop out your bouncy castle chest! Seriously! Parents would pay fuck tons to hire thoses babies for their bored kids to bounce on. and no doubt the dad would have a go once the mom had gone...
Dad.
I miss my dad.
"I have to go" I whispered to Lucy.
She nodded and waved me off as I fled from the cinema-plex, as I got outside, the toffee popcorn and lemonheads suddenly reered their ugly heads as I projectiled them out of me. The acidic taste was over whelming. I wiped my mouth and entered the truck. I pulled out my can of coke and swigged and swilled every drop, I got rid of the taste of sick but not of regret.
As I pulled out out of the car park I spent most of the day and night driving; only to stop for gas and fuel for my self. Around half ten a night I decided to take a trip down a lane shrouded in moss, over growing bushes and overwhelming fog. I took a breathe and pulled into the lane.
About a mile and a half down, I noticed a rock blocked off. I pulled over and stepped out to investigate. I inspected the signs around the entrance and noticed scrawlings saying, *Do not enter here, for if you done, your life be queer.*
Wow.
Never knew Dr freaking Suess was a resident of Masonville.
As I turned to walk back to my truck I heard a twig snapped, I hurled myself around to see a shadow jump off a tree in the foreground of this fog filled scene.
I waited for the landing.
For 1 minute.
2 Minutes.
3 Minutes.
It never happened.
I crawled under the barricade of 4x4s to investigate when I heard someone's breathing. Heavy and quick. Raspy and deep.
I ran into the forest as fast as I could, I told myself not to turn, but I still did, disowning my own reasonable instincts, I turned with my eyes closed, I opened them to see…nothing. Nothing? I ran all this way from nothing. shows how brave I am I was probably running from a pigeon or a squirrel.
Shit, this is just like my dream.
Instead of turning, I ran further, to get away, I ran onto a path and turned once more to see my distance.
That's when I saw him.
David.
Limp, Lifeless.
Hanging.
