something special

chapter one

i wake up to the sound of heavy breathing over my face, i open my eyes to see the most disgusting thing i have ever seen in my life. it has burnt black looking skin and is all wrinkled. for some strange reason i have the weirdest urge to touch it, i reach my hand up and poke it. the thing growls loudly and i scream as loud as i can hoping someone can here me. it's like everyone forgot about me because no one comes rushing in to help me. i knee the thing in the stomach and run, i don't get far before it runs after me and pins me to my bedroom wall. i think for a moment 'if it wanted to kill me why didn't it do so when i was asleep' then it hits me, it wants to here my screams of fear and pain while it ends me. i quickly snap out of my thought when i see its extremely sharp claws urging towards my chest. out of no where i hear the door bust open the creature turns its head to look at what made the noise. it lets out a small growl and focuses back onto me forcing its claws closer and closer to me. i hear people in the background but i'm to busy screaming to pay attention to anything else. i see small black dots cloud my vision, i hear the creature scream so loud it almost makes my ears bleed. i feel its heat gone but i'm still screaming as i black out.

i jolt up screaming, you can hear how full of fear it is. my eye slowly drift open to reveal a room i've never seen before, i run my eyes as if imagining things but nothing changes. the walls are all white and there is a small window showing the sweet view of New York. my eyes dart to a figure staring at me and i am quick to realise that it's one of my close friends jake. i can tell because he has pretty blonde hair and dark blue eyes that glow in the sunlight. he notices me staring and says "hi, mads" i probably look a mess right now but i don't care "jake." i say back, "where are we?" i croak out. "the New York institute" he states, "the New York what?" i repeat feeling kind of lost. he clears his throat before talking "do you remember what happened last night before you blacked out?" what does he mean what happened last night, then i remember my horrible dream. "you mean my dream, it was real?"

"yes" he says.

had i really been that close to dying? i feel absolutely terrified and he sees that. "it's okay, you're safe." he tries to calm me and it works i instantly feel relaxed at his words. i looks down and realise i'm wearing an oversized t-shirt with nothing but my underwear on underneath. i blush slightly feeling embarrassed but he acts like he doesn't care so i just let it go. "i'll take you to your room to get changed then i'll tell you about the shadow world." the shadow world? what the heck is that, it's obvious you can see my confusion but he leads me out of bed an towards my new room.

i change into a white t-shirt and leggings, there was a lot of options in the closet but this was the most comfortable thing i could find. i hear a knock on my door and i walk to open it. i find myself staring into the green eyes of the person before me, his eyes are so gorgeous they are as bright as the ocean and i could get lost staring into them. i begin to notice the rest of his features, his brown hair styled in curtains it suits his long-ish hair that goes maybe up to just below the bottom of his ear. "austin?" i say could i possibly be dreaming two people from my school show up in this weird place the same day as me? a little suspicious if you ask me. "hey mads" he reply's with a smile i feel like i'm melting his smile is so beautiful. i know he sees me staring so i look down at my feet and i feel heat on my cheeks, he lets out a small chuckle. is he trying to make me die from from being absolutely perfect, if he is it's working. "come on i have to take you to jake and alec so they can tell you and i about the shadow world" he doesn't know either? "you don't know about it?" i ask, something flickers in his eyes i can't really tell but it looks a little like hurt. did i do this? did i hurt him? what could i have done to hurt him? he finally speaks up "you know what happened to you last night" i nod "well the same sort of thing happened to me and well now i'm here just like you" he looks into my eyes and i look away before i can stare. he begins to walk away and he turns his head around to look at me as if he was expecting me to follow. i'm quick on my feet and begin following him. i get eyed by so many people it makes me uncomfortable, i hate it when people stare at me.

austin stops right in front of a door and pushes it til it opens. inside reveals jake and another guy who i'm assuming to be alec. alec motions us to sit down on the couch in front of him and we do so. he begins talking about the shadow world and the laws, he mentions the down world and how vampires, werewolves, fairies (which have the special name of seelies) and warlocks exist. and i am called a shadow hunter supposed to protect mundanes (humans) from being attacked from demons so technically i'm a demon slayer.

it sounds like a video game to me, like a whole fantasy come to life.
