|Wendy|The ringing in my ear was a never ending thing. It was always there. The ringing varies, but it's always there. It's clear in the silence. In the night all I could hear was the ringing and Alice's steady breathing, the only thing that kept me sane. I stayed awake and stared at the ceiling and listened to Alice's breaths as she sleeps. I look over to her laying body which was facing the opposite of me.
In my head, I was calm. But in my heart, it beats fast. I was not calm.
I decided that I wasn't going to be able to sleep, so I went to the fire pit, next to the boy's tents. I sat on a log and stared into the ashy pit.
"What are you doing?" I spun quickly. I was startled and I probably looked like it too. I could tell by the look on his face that I was right.
"I couldn't sleep." I replied. It was true, I didn't want to put any effort into it. He sat next to me and that's when I realized he had no shirt on. I looked at the pit as Pan looked at my face.
"You can't just sit out here, Wendy." He finally said. It was freezing but I didn't care. I finally looked at him, his eyes were locked on mine.
"Why?" A look of concern came to his face when he heard my voice. I would've cried if he wasn't there.
"Do you want to come into my tent?" He touched my hand and I let him hold it. Our fingers intertwined. I looked at him in the eyes. I didn't know why I was scared, but I was and I wanted to run and hide. It's not that I didn't want his attention, it's that I didn't know if it was right. But how could it be wrong. I leaned into him and pecked his lips, then I let go of his hand and stood up.
"Hey, now. Don't get too crazy." He said standing up next to me. He smiled as I looked to the ground. He lifted my chin with his fingers so that he'd look into my eyes.
"If you don't, I understand. I'm just trying to help." I wrapped my arms around his waist as he laid his arms on me.
"Alright." We walked over to his tent, which seemed like it was made for two but just held Peter. He led me in hand in hand. I laid in the bed and he laid down next to me. We stared at each other until Peter brought my body closer to his into an embrace.
"What are we?" He said quietly.
"We're people." I replied quickly. I brought my hand to the back to his head and ran it through his hair.
"Yes, but I mean, what are we?" He placed his hand on my cheek. I placed my hand over it and brought it closer to my lips as I kissed his hand. I looked into his eyes. His stupid green eyes. I would've started bawling right then and there. He was beautiful, but I couldn't trip on this stupid string. I don't want to fall, it always hurts at the bottom.
"I don't know." A hint of disappointment covered his face. We stayed silent just looking at each other and shifting now and then.
"Why were you outside, Peter?" I asked. He looked at my hair as he put it behind my ear.
"I missed you." He said with a shy smile as he continues to mess with my hair. "I wanted to lay with you."
"You know Alice sleeps there too, right?"
"Yes, of course." He shut his eyes. "I was going to carry you here."
I laughed a little. Always getting what he wanted, like a spoiled kid in a candy store.
"Why couldn't you sleep?" He asked.
"I don't know I- I just couldn't." I replied.
"God," he sighed and put his forehead on mine. "I really want to kiss you." I shut my eyes tightly. Truthfully, so did I. I wanted to so badly.
"Then why don't you do it? You usually just get what you want." His body tightened when I said that.
"I don't want to hurt you." He said. All we've ever been is playful. We never thought of anything serious until this night. What we had wasn't real, but this, I don't know what this is.
"Just kiss me." I whispered. He breath slightly and I could feel my heart race fast. He looked cautious, I didn't want him to think that he had to prevent me from being hurt. He came closer to my face and slowly placed his lips on mine. My eyelids closed as he pressed into my lips. This was different than any kiss we've ever shared. This was real. A tear traveled from my eyes to Peter's cheek. He pulled away and saw that I was crying, he looked hurt.
"I'm sorry." I laughed as I wiped away tears as I sniffled. Seeing the concerned look on his face, I touched his cheek "Its okay, Peter." He took my hand and kissed it.
"Are you sure?" He asked. I nodded and put my head against his chest.
"We should go to sleep." And we did.
