the tune

"Midnight..."

The clock chimed. As if perfectly coordinated with the song, it had reached the midnight hour.

"...the stars and you..."

All had become dark, however, the music continued. Usually it stopped at midnight. Not tonight. No, tonight it played on, making the atmosphere slightly less unnerving.

"Midnight..."

The lights were off. An intense blanket of darkness coated every single thing in Chuck's house, including himself as he hid behind the couch—from the shadows who's eyes blinked like broken flashlights.

"...and a rendez-vous..."

The song continued to play, occasionally stopping due to little scratches on the record. It was an appropriate song for the time, but not for the situation.

"Your eyes.... held a message tender..."

Chuck, daringly yet cautiously, peaked over the couch to see a surprising sight.

"Saying "I'll surrender all my love to you..."

The dark creatures, the ones with sinister, piercing eyes, were surrounding the record player. They stared absent-mindedly at the contraption. They almost seemed amazed.

"Midnight.... brought us sweet romance..."

The mysterious entities continued to stare. They did so as the song went on, Ray Noble's calming, yet slightly distorted due to the quality of the record player, singing to the orchestra in the background.

"I know... all my whole life through..."

One creature started swaying hypnotically to the notes and soft beats of the tune. Did they like the music? This was new.

"I'll be remembering you..."

Suddenly, one by one, the shadow entities began swaying in unison, near perfect to the tempo. Chuck was more dumbfounded then the creatures when they had first heard the record player.

"Whatever else I do..."

One by one, the things changed positions. Some of them joined arms, some of them danced alone. Nonetheless, they were dancing. Slow dancing. Chuck felt a small smile creep across his face. This was the first time they had made him feel anything other than fear.

"Midnight..."

The shadow people spun around the room, preforming old-fashion ballroom dances. They really did like the music, didn't they. They loved it, in fact. Maybe they had something in common with Chuck.

"...with the stars and you..."
