the final masquerade (pt. 2)

The music was shrill and sharp, perfectly appropriate for the hellish setting.

Darkness still coated the walls like black blood. It seemed as though the ballroom itself was bleeding, dying, like Masqueraze would be soon.

But when?

Goldity was, surprisingly, a very good dancer. He lead the mask around the room, twirling him around at random intervals. The caped man was very quick on his feet, almost alarmingly so.

The two men whirled around the room, their colorful shapes standing out against the dripping, black walls.

The eyes on the walls seemed to watch the two every where they went. Masqueraze was disturbed, very much so. Goldity seemed unfazed. There was a small, sinister smirk on his face.

The mask finally spoke.

"Did you feel guilt when you murdered Mr. Lloyd?"

They stopped dancing abruptly. The music had as well.

Goldity's smirk had faded into a pained, yet enraged expression. He paused, giving himself a moment to regather his composure.

"No."

A look of shock spread across Masqueraze's face.

The skull-wearing man was truly a cold-hearted creature.

Or was he lying?

There was still a hint of pain in his voice.

The mask looked over at Noli. His gaze was cold, fixed on Goldity.

Something was wrong, something other than whatever was going on at the moment.

There was something suspicious about Goldity and his father's relationship.

Goldity spoke once more.

"I didn't feel bad about kill the decrepit, old corpse. And I won't feel bad about killing you either," He said grimly.

Suddenly, the caped man grabbed his was the with one hand, his wrist with the other, tipping him over.

Still holding him, Goldity smiled with malicious intent.

Masqueraze suddenly felt himself fall from Goldity's arms, bashing against the floor.

Goldity raised his sword over his head.

This was it, and the mask had never seen it coming. He had knew he was going to die, sure, but he didn't know when until now, moment away from his demise.

Masqueraze chuckled lightly, uttering his last words.

"Don't lie to yourself. You did feel bad about killing him, didn't you?"

Goldity brought the sword down upon the mask in a fit of fury, ending his life with angry strike to the heart.

The music began to play again, but it wasn't the shrill, off-key track. It was the familiar, beautiful orchestra, humming away for the last time.

This was the curtain call for Masqueraze.
