"How about this one?" I asked, walking out of the changing room to show Brooklyn the dress.
As soon as she saw me a huge grin broke out on her face. "Oh my gosh, it's perfect!" She squealed excitedly.
"Are you sure?" I asked uncertainly. I liked the dress, way much more than the other ones I had tried on, but it was a little bit too revealing for me.
As of she knew what I was thinking, she quickly shook her head. "It doesn't show that much skin, Addie, and even so, the guys will be drooling for a bit of this," she wiggled her eyebrows suggestively, poking my sides playfully.
"Shut up," I grumbled, feeling my cheeks heat up. I didn't even bother mentioning that there probably wouldn't be any guys there.
I heard her musical laughter behind me as I changed back into my clothes. After I'd paid for it and went to a different store to buy some heels to go with it, we decided to get something to eat as we were both exhausted and starving.
We went into a restaurant nearby and ordered our food. While we were waiting, my mind wondered to all of todays shopping.
The only reason I had needed to buy a dress was because a week from now, my family and I would be attending a party that one of my dads friends were throwing to celebrate the anniversary of him and his wife. I internally groaned at the thought.
It's not that I didn't want to go, it just wasn't my scene. There would probably be more parents than teenagers or children, and I didn't even know anybody, I felt as if I wouldn't fit in.
When our food arrived, we ate and chatted, then paid for our food before leaving and heading to my car.
"I enjoyed today, it's been ages since we last had a day at the mall together," Brooklyn said, putting emphasis on 'ages'.
I smiled at her quickly before turning back to face the road. "Yeah I know, what's up with us?" I joked, shaking my head.
"Wow Addie, I fear our friendship may have run its course, I'm so sorry." She sighed dramatically, placing her hand over her heart and pretending to wipe away her tears.
"Yes, I fear it may have." I said, pulling over to the side of the road. "Get out. We are no longer friends."
She stared at me wide-eyed. "I was joking, Addie! I didn't mean it, are you serious?!"
I couldn't help it, the look on her face made me crack, I burst out laughing. "Oh my gosh," I managed between gasps, "you should - you should of saw your face!" I was doubled over laughing, tears streaming down my face.
She muttered something under her breath which I didn't catch.
"What was that?" I asked amused.
"I hate you." She grumbled.
I grinned over at her before driving back on to the road. "Love you too, Brooke."
After I dropped Brooke off, I headed home. When I got home, I headed straight to the kitchen where my Mum and Dad were sitting, having what looked like a serious conversation.
My Mum noticed me standing there and looked up at me. "Hello sweetie," she smiled.
"Hey," I said back, looking between the two of them. "Am I interrupting something?"
"No of course not dear," she said. "However, we do need to tell you something, we're not quite sure how you'll take it."
"What is it?" I asked curiously.
"A few days ago we were talking to our friends Layla and Joe, and they have a bit of a problem." My Dad said cautiously.
"What kind of problem?"
"Well it's their eldest son, he's causing quite a few problems between the family and his parents think he should take some time away from them, both to let him calm down and to try and sort things out between them while he's away."
The way Dad spoke was as if he was trying to tell me something without actually telling me. I didn't understand though, what has his friends family problems got to do with us?
"If you were wondering how I'd take that, then I don't really care," I shrugged, wondering why they'd even told me that.
"That's not all sweetie," my Mum said. "As though they were so stressed about it and trying to find him somewhere to go, we decided to help them out."
That got my attention a little more. "And how exactly did you help out?" I asked curiously.
"We decided to let him stay here for a couple of months," my Mum smiled eerily, as if awaiting my reaction.
"As long as he doesn't touch my stuff, then whatever," I shrugged.
Having someone stay here for a couple of months wouldn't be a problem as long as he didn't bother me or get on my nerves. We could maybe even become friends, who knows?
My Mum and Dad both laughed at my comment, seeming more relaxed that I was okay with it.
"So have I met this boy before?" I asked.
"Maybe," my Mum said, "he goes to your school."
"Oh really? What's his name?" I smiled.
My Dad answered this time.
"Shaun Peterson."
The smile was wiped straight off my face. I couldn't believe it. Had I heard him correctly?
Shaun Peterson? The arrogant, conceited, cold-hearted player?
This could not be happening.
