"You're lying."
"No I'm not, I'm serious."
"You can't be!"
"I am!"
"Are not."
"Am too."
"Are not!"
I sighed loudly. Brooke and I had been arguing like this for the past 10 minutes. I told her about Shaun coming to stay with us and crazily enough, she doesn't believe me.
"Brooke, for the last time, Shaun will be staying with us. I haven't ever lied to you before, have I?"
It was silent for a moment before she replied. "Well, no, but-"
I cut her off. "Exactly, so let's drop this topic, please."
"Not so fast," she said, "when is he arriving at your place?"
I shrugged, then realized she couldn't see me. "I don't know for sure. My Mum said this weekend, and as though it's Friday now, probably tomorrow or Sunday, I'm guessing.
After that she changed the subject easily, sensing I didn't want to talk about it anymore. She knew how much I disliked Shaun. We had been best friends for years, we knew each other just as much, if not more than we knew ourselves.
We talked for another half an hour before she had to go. "Remember, if when Shaun comes to your house he makes you feel uncomfortable at all, you come straight to my house and you can spend some time here. Alright?"
My heart swelled at the kindness in her voice. I knew she cared about me just as much as I cared about her. We always looked out for each other; we were like sisters you could say. It was hard not to get choked up when she was so caring towards me.
"Thank you, Brooke. I'll remember that." I smiled. Even though she couldn't see it, she could probably sense it in my voice.
She let out a light laugh. "No problem, Addie. See you later. Love you."
"Love you too. Bye." I said, before she hung up.
She really was the best friend in the world.

I was awoken by loud talking coming from downstairs. I strained to hear but couldn't make anything out that was being said. I decided to ignore it until I'd had my morning shower.
So I did just that. When I was washed and fully dressed, I walked downstairs and into the kitchen where I heard light chatter.
However what I did not expect to see when I walked into the kitchen was none other than Shaun Peterson, sitting eating his freshly cooked bacon and pancakes from my Mum, clearly emitting an aura of control. Who does he think he is? I bet he made my Mum cook him breakfast.
Why was I being so bitter already? Jesus, snap out of it Addie.
As soon as I walked in, three heads snapped towards me. Mum and Dad. And Shaun.
I decided it was best for now to just ignore Shaun, so I walked towards my usual seat and tucked into my own breakfast.
"Morning, sweetie," my Mum chirped.
"Good morning Mum. And Dad," I added, smiling at them both.
"What? No good morning to me too?" Shaun asked, smirking right at me.
I wanted to wipe that smirk straight off his face with a slap, but in the presence of Mum and Dad, I couldn't do that. Plus I didn't plan on resorting to violence so fast, I at least should get to know the guy a little. Yes? No? Yes.
"Oh I'm sorry, I wasn't forewarned you needed a good morning from yours truly to get you through the day, how sweet of you," I shot back sarcastically, "Good morning princess."
"Well now you know," He winked, chuckling quietly.
I took this time to scan over his appearance. He had dark brown, dishevelled hair, with a bit that flopped in front of his eyes. His eyes were a dark piercing blue, the type easy to get lost in. His most prominant feature (at least to me anyway) was that jawline. The most perfect jawline I'd possibly ever laid eyes on. Paired with that, he had a hint of stubble, a personal favourite of mine. He was wearing a tight, black short sleeve top which clearly showed how defined his chest was. I liked the look of him. He was easy on the eyes.
"You done checking me out?"
"Excuse me?" I asked, taken aback.
"You heard me," He smirked.
"Yes, I did, and it appears you're going off the rails."
"Come on babe, don't-"
"Don't call me babe," I snapped. I had a slight issue with my short fuse, I forgot to mention.
"N'aw, does somebody have a bit of a temper?"
That smug tone of his would be the death of him, if I had anything to do with it.
"If you don't shut the fuc-"
"Addison!" My Mum yelled. "I will not tolerate bad language aimed at our guest. Where are your manners young lady?"
"He started it!"
"And I'm ending this childish squabble. Your father and I are both going to be working all day today, I don't want to leave this house knowing that I can't trust you to be nice to him."
It irritated me off that he'd been here merely a few hours and he's already got my mum wrapped around his finger. "You know what, Mum?"
"What?" She responded, tilting her head to the side in curiosity.
"You have every right not to trust me, and do you want to know why?" I asked, but didn't wait for her to answer before I continued. "Because he's a waste of my time. So no mum, I won't be licking his ass for you."
And with that, I got up and headed out the kitchen and up to my room, hearing my mum slam down her mug in frustration.
Only 10 minutes later, there was a knock at my door. Thinking it was Shaun, I called back, "Go away you asshole!"
When the door opened anyway, I was about to pick up a pillow and throw it at him when I realized it was my dad.
"Oh, urm, hi dad," I laughed awkwardly.
"Hello to you too," he laughed. "And thank you for calling me an asshole darling, your heart wrenching love towards me is admirable."
I laughed at that. Quite the joker he was. "Aren't you mad at me too? Like mum? Did she send you up here?"
"Nah," he smiled, shaking his head. "I could tell he was trying to wind you up, no harm done."
I smiled back gratefully, before a frown took over my face. "Mum doesn't seem to agree. She's already picking sides," I mumbled.
He sighed, closing the door and coming to sit beside me on my bed. "She isn't exactly picking sides, but you know how she gets when we have people over, she tries too hard to please them. That's the same thing with Shane."
"His name is Shaun..."
"So?" He winked.
"I love you Dad," I laughed, hugging him tightly.
He hugged back happily, squeezing tightly and kissing the top of my head.
"I have to get going to work now kiddo, but if you need me don't hesitate to call me."
"Thank you dad, for everything. And don't worry, I won't."
He ruffled my hair lightly before getting up and walking towards the door. Just before he opened it, he turned back around grinning at me. "And if Shaun does anything to you while I'm gone, let me know and I'll be sure to sort him out for you," he winked, causing me to burst out laughing.
He laughed himself before giving me a little wave and walking out the door, closing it behind him.
