The next day, Ricky went to school as usual. He dragged himself out of bed and got ready, despite being tired as hell. As he was on his way to school, he couldn't help but think of the night before. Billy wasn't gonna do anything, right?
Nonetheless, he was glad Mason had left him alone after Billy was there. It made him feel safe knowing his brother would be there if he needed him.
As Ricky sat down in class, he noticed he was a bit early. He didn't mind though, maybe he could get some more sleep. He laid his head down on his arms, ignoring the sounds of the other students talking amongst themselves. Ricky couldn't help but overhear what some students were talking about behind him. He listened closely, hearing them talking about Mason.
"Did you hear? Some motherfucker sent Mason to the hospital," One kid said. Ricky jolted up, all tiredness leaving instantly. He turned around to look at the kid, a concerned look on his face.
"Wait, what? Really?" He asked.
"Yeah," the kid replied. "Heard he got a black eye and a broken wrist,"
Ricky couldn't believe what he was hearing. Had billy done this?
He began to feel light-headed and grabbed his backpack.
"E-Excuse me," He said quietly, walking out of the room.
He made his way over to the corner where he usually sits and put down his backpack, looking at the wall. As he sat down he couldn't help but feel guilty. Chances are it could've been someone else who had done this, but it was even more likely that it was Billy.
Ricky stood up. He needed to ask him. He grabbed his backpack and headed towards the exit, making sure to avoid any teachers. He went to where he and Billy usually meet up and quickly realized he wouldn't be there until school ended.
Out of desperation, Ricky called Billy's name, hoping he might hear him. He knew from their daily talks that Billy lived around here somewhere, but he never told him where. Ricky ran for a while, still calling Billy's name. But it wasn't until he was in front of the nearby forest that he got somewhat of a reply.
He called billy's name once more and was ready to give up when he suddenly heard something in the bushes. He turned around and cautiously backed away.
"B-Billy?" He stuttered.
Suddenly, Billy popped out of the bush, startling Ricky. He jumped, not expecting Billy to come out of there.
"WHAts wrong?!" Billy asked with a worried look on his face.
"What were you doing in the bush?" Ricky asked, not minding the leaves in Billy's hair.
"I-I'll explain later, are you okay?" Billy said as he approached Ricky.
Ricky paused, remembering why he was there in the first place. He backed away slightly, a look of concern on his face.
"I need to ask you something," Ricky said in a serious tone.
"What is it?" Billy asked.
"Did you hurt mason?"
Ricky could tell from Billy's reaction what the answer was. Billy had a guilty expression on his face and refused to look at Ricky for a moment.
"Billy I-" Ricky couldn't handle the information he has just been given and began to walk away, wanting to get away from Billy.
"Ricky, wait!" Billy called and began to run after Ricky.
Ricky turned around and glared up at Billy.
"What?" He asked, clearly pissed off.
"Ricky he- ..he hurt you," Billy tried to give a reason as to why he did what he did, hoping Ricky would understand.
"You broke his wrist!" Ricky snapped back. "Sure, the black eye I get, but did you have to send him to the god damn hospital?!
"I-" Billy tried to reply, but was cut off.
"Ever heard of the saying 'violence is not the answer?' Of course, you haven't! You murdered people!" Ricky stopped and sighed, sitting down on the nearby bench.
Billy stood there for a moment, surprised at Ricky's yelling. He wouldn't admit it out loud, but he knew he went a bit too far when he broke Mason's wrist. Mason was a kid, after all.
He sat down beside Ricky, not wanting to leave him alone when he's like this.
"..Do you hate me?" Billy asked in a calm voice, hoping it didn't sound too guilt-trippy. He genuinely wanted to know if his only family hated him or not.
Ricky sighed. "Of course not," He turned to Billy. "I just don't know why you'd do something like that," He said as he looked back at the ground.
"Well," Billy smiled gently. "I'd do anything to protect my little brother." He replied, patting Ricky on the head.
Ricky pushed his hand away, but more in a playful way than anything. He chuckled and looked at Billy.
"Yeah, I can tell." He replied, smiling.
