Rumor

"R/N!"

You huffed as you ran to keep up with your rival as he bolted to the center. You weren't at your greatest due to the rumor near Victory Road. R/N slid into the center with a triumphant cheer. You huffed as you took a breath behind him.

"Jerk..."

"Victory!"

"This is the only thing you can beat me at!" He chuckled as he went to drop his pokemon off. You followed as you huffed to regain your breath. It wasn't easy after defeating the champion that you had to hold yourself together and not be a kid. The two of you dropped your pokemon off as a voice drifted into your ears.

"So that person also screwed up. Arceus... that guy is good..." Your eyes drifted over to a particular male that caught your attention. R/N didn't notice as you went over to the guy. The male noticed and huffed.

"I'm not going to like what walks out of your mouth, am I?" You chuckled as you held up the picture.

"Ya'know, I could give it to you."

"You are such a taunt." You smiled as you put the picture away. "Did you do that to the others too?" You scoffed.

"Sorta. I'm just surprised that you didn't see what I saw." He groaned. Your rival went over and frowned.

"Y/N, stop pestering the poor guy." You raised an eyebrow.

"But it's fun. Besides, you don't know what's going on here."

"Looks like some kind of dealing." You chuckled as the guy restrained whatever he had to throw. "What are you doing, really?" The guy sighed.

"Sit down and watch the comebacks this guy throws." You rolled your eyes as the two of you sat across from the male. "I don't suppose you two know the Rumor of the Volcanic Hunt, do you?"

"I think I do... my dad talks a lot about how people haven't solved it." You chuckled at your rival's words.

"Yet this guy can't figure out the one by Victory Road." The guy shook his head as you grin.

"I'm done listening to you and we haven't even started." R/N nudged you as the guy continued.

"Rumor has it that there is a legendary Pokemon hiding deep within Stark Mountain. If a trainer fails to take it down, it disappears until the next trainer comes."

"This sounds like the one in Eterna..." You whisper. The guy chuckled.

"I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't the same rumor." R/N raised an eyebrow as the guy sighed.

"Do I hear the 'but there's more' coming?" The guy chuckled.

"You're good."

"The other rumor is that a mysterious boy will ask you if you could help him hunt the legendary. For some reason, he always gets pushed out early. He travels to the area near the location of the legendary, but then appears again for the next trainer."

"I would be careful with this one. The last guy that attempted it almost lost his life because the volcano didn't really like him. Be alert." You nodded as the call for the pokemon came. The two of you grabbed your pokemon and went out. R/N stopped you quickly.

"You're not actually going to do that rumor, are you?" You hummed.

"I've done it before. This isn't the first rumor I've faced and won. I'll be back in maybe an hour."

"Maybe?"

"I don't know how long this'll take. So if I either come back wounded or I'm not back by sunset, you can start panicking. See you later." He grabbed your arm.

"Let me come with. It's not that I don't trust you, but... I don't exactly believe you." You smiled.

"Race you there."
