Olivia felt a cool rush of air come through her bedroom window. Slowly, she opened her eyes to find that it was indeed morning. Her parents had said that she needed to get supplies for school, seeing as she had about 3 days before the semester started. Olivia was borderline emotional. She remembered going to Ilvermorny for a brief period during her first year, but her parents quickly pulled her out following some concerning events within the administration. Sometimes she wishes that her parents didn't do that. While it would have been infinitely more dangerous than being at home, it certainly would have given her more experiences regarding schooling and other witches and wizards. Back in the United States, she had a few friends, but certainly none of them were close enough to really give her a feel for having real friends. In fact, those other girls were technically not even her friends. More like acquaintances at best.

Olivia got out of bed and rummaged through her suitcases until she found an outfit to her liking, a gray T-shirt with some plain jeans. Nothing fancy. She generally did not even like fancy things anyways. So unpractical. It wasn't like Olivia knew anybody she had to impress anyways. Certainly she may see some of her classmates, but she would not even know them enough to make the connection.

The smell of cinnamon wafted through the air. Breakfast was sitting on the counter in the kitchen, freshly out of the oven. Olivia's mother had made cinnamon rolls.
"Hey mom."
"Hello, Olivia. Did you hear about the quidditch cup?"
"The quidditch cup? Well, I know who won. Not much else. Did something happen?"
"Well, they say there were reports of a dark mark being cast into the sky."
Olivia was shocked. A dark mark? He-who-must-not-be-named was dead as far as anyone knew. The ministry had prosecuted and and incarcerated as many death eaters as they knew. The possibility of there being more than those imprisoned was always there, but nobody really talked about it. Plus, He-who-must-not-be-named was more of a UK problem. Americans knew about him, but they were still rebuilding from Grindelwald's destruction so they were not particularly invested.
"Your father and I have discussed pulling you out of Hogwarts-"
"No!"
They couldn't be serious. Olivia had just barely got here and was so excited to go...They wouldn't possibly take her out, would they?
"You can't! I was going to finally get a chance to be normal and go back to school and you are going to keep me out again? All for fear of my safety? I am a good witch mom. I can take care of myself. You can't protect me forever."
Olivia's mom took a deep breath and raised her voice, "If you had let me finish what I was about to SAY maybe you wouldn't ave freaked out so much. We aren't taking you out. Merlin's beard Olivia. Your father and I both have jobs here. We cannot stick around to teach you all the time."
"Oh." Now Olivia felt guilty. She just assumed they were going to be overly protective helicopter parents again. She loved them with all her heart, but she was ready to be a teenager and be without them for a while.
"Now, hurry up and eat. We have got to go get all of your supplies today because school starts in only a few days."
Right. Moving here made her registration delayed and she did not have anything for school except her wand. No need to buy a new one of those. She had older school robes from the small amount of time she attended Ilvermorny, but that was 3 years ago. They certainly would not fit now. Plus her parents had received special instruction to buy a formal dress. Everyone would be shopping for those.

Olivia shoved the cinnamon roll in her mouth, chewing with her mouth open so that it would not burn her tongue. She licked her fingers and ran back to her room to get her shoes.

Diagon alley was truly a sight to behold. Especially going through the passage in the Leaky Cauldron. Oh, how Olivia loved magic. The sheer number of shops and storefronts alone was amazing. In the same fashion as the shops, the number of people shopping about was making the paved sidewalks crowded. Without realizing she had stopped, Olivia took it all in. Her mother quickly grabbed her arm to string her along.
"It is amazing isn't it?" Olivia's dad whispered in her ear.
Olivia didn't audibly reply, but her jaw being slightly open was probably all her dad needed to know that she agreed completely. It was, well, magical.
