Softpaw felt the battle around her, the yowls and screams of cats. The horrifying blood stench in the air. It was her first time seeing the territory. She'd only been an apprentice for a day! Willowleaf, had been showing her around when they had heard the fighting from a border patrol. She could not see. She had no clue who was her clanmates. She couldn't fight. She was useless. Just like her parents had said. Ex-parents, she meant. The moment she had opened her eyes and could not see, as the moment her parents disowned her. Cloudfeather in all her loving glory had raised Softpaw as her own. She screeched as she was pulled down by a tom, who was massive compared to her.
"Willowleaf!" she cried. The brown tom looked over his shoulder her his apprentice was squirming beneath the large warrior. He left the she-cat he'd been battling and shoved the tom off of her.
"Go get help!" he cried as the tom turned around to fight him. Softpaw raced through the trees, blindly, literally. She opened her mouth to smell for the camp. The smell of blood wafted towards her. She closed her eyes, focusing on the forest and seeking out Muddypaw's scent. He was one of the only cats who treated her like she was someone. It was as though her vision cleared. She could clearly see the camp, and a light brown tom eating fresh kill.
A voice softly whispered in her ear, "Run straight, Softpaw, their time is running out." At that, not even realizing the voice, she took off, heading straight, just as the voice had said.
She pushed through the brambles, "Arrowstar! Arrowstar!" The cats looked at her curiously, her fur was fluffed and she was obviously terrified.
"What is it?" the large black tom asked.
"The border patrol was attacked! Willowleaf sent me for reinforcement," she was out of breath and had obvious scratches on her.

"Whitetail, Honeyfeather, Missingpaw, Cloudypaw, and Loudmouse come with me. Softpaw have Tulipsong treat your scratches," Lilacwind's violet eyes blazed with fury and protection for her clanmates. commanded, she flicked her tail and her patrol followed her out of the camp.
"Come Softpaw, some of those are deep," Tulipsong's light nudge moved Softpaw forward.

The scent of Tulipsong's herbs welcomed her, as she sank into one of the nests. Softpaw sniffed, "Are you using marigold?" Tulipsong nodded.
"Save it for the injured warriors, I can't use up your stock. Trust me the warriors will need it more." Tulipsong sighed and applied cobwebs to her scratches.

Several gasps were heard outside. Softpaw lurched out of the nest despite the pain. She gasped as well. Her mentor, Willowleaf, was dead.
