"So, Care to show me your home, Tommy?"
I heard his breath hitch for a moment before he turned to Dream, "I can take her through L'Manburg, Dream." Dream stayed silent for a second and then started wheezing, "Tommy? What the hell? Mr. innit being shy around a woman?"
"Dream! You brought a new person onto the server! It's not because she's a girl," Tommy argued. I chuckled, "Jeez Tommy! Calm down! Let's go on that tour." He nods in-game and I say bye to Dream before going into Tommy's VC.
"Hello, Tommy!"
"Hello (Y/N)." Tommy's voice seemed stressed, "How are you?" Every word he spoke seemed to be choked out like he had a lump in his throat as if he was going to cry.
"I'm doing well! Thank you for asking," I replied, "Are you ok? You sound like you're going to cry..."
He stayed silent before clearing his throat, "So! Here is the entrance to L'Manburg. And as you can see, the walls." I moved my mouse so I can look up at the towering walls, "Wow. They're beautiful." I heard a light chuckle from Tommy, "Wait until you actually see inside the walls." He began walking into the gap in the wall, myself following closely behind. I stopped as I set foot inside.
"Wow," I whispered to myself. My eyes moved over a couple of small lakes, a small patch of forest, and a... Hotdog truck? Whatever. I chuckled, "It's... Creative! I love it!" I followed Tommy further into the sweet land of L'Manburg, him showing me the sights and secrets.
As I was laughing as Tommy showed me the caravan, which I previously thought was a hotdog truck, I heard the familiar sound of someone joining the Discord call. "Hello," I said to whoever just entered the call.
A deep, British voice returned, "Hello? Tommy who is this?" I chuckled, most likely cutting off Tommy, "I'm Y/N! It's a pleasure to meet you..." I trailed off. "Wilbur. Wilbur Soot." I let out a hearty breath, "Nice to meet you, Wilbur. I'm guessing you run the place? Your uniform..."
"Yes! Actually, I do! And I have heard about you from Dream. He said he was bringing someone new onto the server," Wilbur said with a touch of worry in his voice. Taking notice of the immense amount of stress around, I spoke up, "Is... Everyone ok?" I heard a slight choking sound from Wilbur, "Dream has decided that war is the best. L'manburg wants to be independent."
"...I believe I may be of good assistance," I admitted to both of them. I heard someone shift around, "I see... I thought you and Dream were good friends. Wouldn't that be a bad move on your part," Tommy said. "Not really, We just started talking last night. There's no other connection." I turned to Wilbur, "Let's be honest, L'manburg is gorgeous. Also, you have the only other kids on the server with you. It would be kinda awkward for a minor to join a bunch of actual adults."
After a second of hesitation, Tommy finally cracked the question, "How old are you exactly?" "I'm fifteen. I'll turn sixteen in just about half a year," I answered. Tommy screamed in response, "POGCHAMP!! YOU'RE ONLY A YEAR YOUNGER THAN ME." Wilbur and I began to laugh aloud.
It felt good to have people around.
I was shaken a bit once I heard the sound of another person joining the VC. "Hey, Y/N, watcha think of the server," Dream asked. "I love it! Thank you so much for inviting me!" After an awkward silence, Dream spoke up, "So... Now that you've seen the entirety of the server, which side will you choose? I'm guessing you heard about the war."
"L'manburg. L'manburg is my home. And I intend to keep it that way," I replied confidently. Dream stayed silent before yelling, "Why?! I've done everything for you! You'd be nothing without me-!" He ended with a gasp, realizing he pushed it too far.
"I think you've said enough, Dream. Leave this voice chat," I said to him, holding back a few tears of realization. I knew he was right. Why did I let the 'fans' get to my head? They're watching my streams out of pity. I knew it.
After letting out an exhale, Dream disconnected from the call, along with Wilbur, who I'm guessing went to go speak to him. Tommy and I were the only ones left in the call. "Y/N? Are you ok," Tommy asked in a bit of a hushed voice. I couldn't answer. The tears escaped the corners of my eyes and I ended my stream, leaving only the two of us.
"Y/N-?"
"We have to win this war, Tommy. I'm tired of being ignored. L'manburg will be victorious." My voice wavered a bit due to the knot in my throat. "If... If L'manburg doesn't win... I don't know what I'll do." I turned my in-game character to him, "And I'll do whatever it takes."
I hung up the call and jumped away from my monitor, letting the knot slip from my throat. I began sobbing into my pillow.
What Dream said was right! I'm nothing without him! Everyone only watches my streams because I have a connection with him. My viewers don't watch me for my content. They watch for Dream's content. Maybe I should just give up-
"Y/N," Sam knocked on my door, "I saw your stream." She came into the room and sat down next to me on my bed, rubbing my back, "You don't need Dream to succeed. You're wonderful the way you are."
I just continued to cry. She could be right or should be telling me a lie I want to hear. I wanted to disappear, forget everything that happened. I wanted to run away, sink into nothingness.
I fell asleep that night, doubting my very existence. I'm nobody. But I'd rather be somebody than nobody...
Beams of golden sun seeped through my window. I woke up and rubbed my eyes. Walking to the mirror, I noticed how red and puffy my eyes got from last night.
I yawned. My sleep schedule had been completely thrown out the window at this rate. Going to bed at around 2am has it's downfall eventually.
That's when I noticed I didn't quite hang up on Discord last night...
