Brad got into the back of the van and Tamara waved at him.
"Hi Brad," she said.
"Hi," Brad replied.
"So what's new?" She asked him. I sat on the passenger's side.
"Nothing much," Brad said.
"Oh," Tamara replied. I put my seatbelt on and told Brad to do it. He did and so did Tamara.
"We have to go talk to his parents," I told Tamara. Tamara gazed in her rearview mirror.
"And say what? Hey, your son is an insane werewolf who's been eating people on full moons? Chill, he was just hungry," Tamara remarked.
"It wasn't me. I swear," Brad said.
"We know, she's just joking around," I said.
"Natalie, I hate to break it to you, but what makes you think that he won't eat us tonight?" She asked me. I swallowed hard.
"I don't know. I... I know that he won't. Maybe we can restrain him," I suggested.
"Restrain him?" Tamara asked me.
"Just drive," I told her. I didn't know what to do or say, so I just looked forwards into the streets, the stores and the buildings of a few service businesses until we reached Brad's house. Brad got out of the van with me.
"You can go," I told Tamara.
"Don't you want me to take you home?" Tamara asked me. I shook my head.
"I don't want you to get into trouble," I told her.
"I'm already in trouble," Tamara said.
"Tamara..." I pleaded. Tamara nodded.
"Okay, but please call me," Tamara said and I nodded in agreement. Tamara rolled her window up and left the street. I walked into Brad's house. I noticed that he was hesitant to go to see his parents, nervous and he might even be scared, but I wasn't going to let him face this alone. I held his hand.
"Maybe we can make something up," he said to me. I shook my head.
"If you want I'll do the talking, but we need to come clean," I said. He nodded and as his hand was sweaty and trembling, I held on to it and told myself that I would never let him go. Brad tried the doorknob, but it was closed. So he knocked on the door.
"Don't you have a copy of the house keys?" I asked him.
"Lost them," he said.
"Oh, right," I replied and nodded. It was the whole werewolf thing. I had forgotten. His mother opened the door.
"Brad?"
"Hi mom," he said. He swallowed hard and he looked at me. I wasn't sure, but I thought that maybe he was avoiding his mother's glare.
"Mrs. Wolfram, I need to talk to you about Brad. He's going through a tough moment," I said.
"I'm sure that with a girlfriend who smokes pot," she said and crossed her arms. What? How did she find out? I ignored her remark. It wasn't time to argue about that, it was time to tell her the truth about her son.
"Mom, I'm in real trouble and it has nothing to do with her. We need to talk. Inside. Please," Brad remarked. Mrs. Wolfram frowned and sighed, but decided to let us in.
"Thank you," I told her. She didn't seem to happy about it, but she closed the door behind us and we sat on a couch with velvet imitation leather.
"This is nice," I said.
"What's going on? Are you using drugs?" She asked us with a glare. Brad's dad came in, but he didn't say anything. He seemed as angered or even more than his wife.
"Remember that time when I got bitten," Brad began.
"Oh... yeah, when you were out with her," His mom said.
"It has nothing to do with her," Brad said defending me. Brad's dad touched Mrs. Wolfram's shoulder, apparently trying to calm her down. I was thankful for the gesture.
"Anyway, the bite did something to me. I never told you, but fur grew out of my wound," he said.
"Fur?" She asked.
"He was bitten by a werewolf," I told them. I figured, why beat the bush? The sooner they knew about their son, the better.
"What?"
"And he's going to turn tonight. You need to restrain him," I said.
"Oh, and we'll use silver and holy water on him, is that it?" Mrs. Wolfram said humoring me.
"It's not a joke. There's a werewolf hunter following him. We need to restrain him here before he turns," I said.
"Get out of my house," She said.
"Sarah..." Mr. Wolfram said, but she shook her head annoyed.
"You come here with my son who's been disappearing day in and day out and you-"
"Mom, it's the truth. I didn't know what to do. I met the werewolf who bit me and he was pretending to help me, but he really wasn't. He wanted me to murder people for him after he changed me. I haven't... done anything yet, but..."
"He needs to be restrained," I told her. She grabbed my arm and tried to drag me out of the house, but it instantly gave me an idea.
"I can prove it to you, look," I said and I pulled my hand away and took my bracelet away.
"Catch," I said and tossed it to Brad. Brad caught it and moaned.
"What are you doing?" Sarah asked and she looked at his hand. Smoke was coming out of it.
"If he were human, than silver wouldn't do anything to him," I said. Brad couldn't hold on to it any longer. He dropped the bracelet on the floor and his hand was burned from holding it.
"What is this? What did you do to my son? Brad?" She asked horrified. Brad shook his head.
"It wasn't her mom. It was a guy named Patrick. He did this to me," Brad said.
"Mrs. Wolfram, you have to believe us. He's going to turn tonight and he needs to be restrained. There's a werewolf hunter and he's looking for him. He's going to kill him," I said.
"We can't let that happen," she said looking at to her husband. Her husband shook his head.
"We're not going to let it happen," he said.
"Good. What we need is something strong... iron," I said.
"Iron? But I thought that silver restrained him?" Franklin, Brad's dad said.
"Silver hurts him. We don't want to hurt him, we just want to keep him here during the night," I said. Sarah was crying.
"Don't worry Mrs. Wolfram, it's going to be okay. Everything is going to be okay," I said and reminded myself in secret.
"Yeah, Sarah... we're going to make it work," Franklin said. She turned around and hugged her husband for comfort.
"We're not going to let anybody hurt him," he said into her ear and she just nodded on his shoulder and had a long cry. Then, she wiped her tears away.
"I can get the cage," I said.
"But what about the howling? They're going to hear me in there, howling," Brad told me. He was right. We were going to have to sound proof the whole basement just in case.
"Okay... I'm calling my dad. He has a lot of clients," I said. Brad nodded. I took my cell phone out and called my dad.
