With a deep sigh, the grumpy man released my hand as his scarf obediently went back to its owner. I set down my pen, putting my head into my hands. He doesn't speak as I frustratingly rub my face a bit. I then release a deep breath, finally bringing myself to look at him. He's looking back at me, his eyes not wavering from my own. All the stress begins to hit me, so I look back down at my papers before I lose it. Now that I'm more calm, I reply, "I just don't want to let the kids down."

I can still feel his eyes on me as I continue to stare down at my papers. I then hear him get up from the couch and begin walking towards me. For a foreign reason, my heart begins to pick up pace. Once he gets to me, though, he squats down beside me. He gently brings his index finger and thumb to my chin, gently directing it to look at him. Once my eyes meet his, I feel a sense of calm. Which is strange, considering the cold and uncaring demeanor of the man in front of me. Finally, he speaks, "the kids already love you (y/n), I'm sure they'd want you to take care of yourself."
