Chapter 4

As I lay down to the mattress, I remembered what Derek and I talked about.
He told me, that he was 19 and lived alone in a house in Chicago. He also told me that he had a 11 year old sister, who lived at their mother's home. He wanted to be an artist when he'd be done with school.
With every sentence he spoke, he sounded like a real man, who knew what he wanted.
I knew a lot of boys at my age, or a few ages older. We often met together in a group next to the sea and smoked or ate pizza and stuff. The nineteen year old boys were always drunk and sang as loud as they could their self written songs which hadn't even their own melody. They didn't really care about my personality as long as I was pretty.
I stopped believing in the fact that boys under age 25 can be men, but now I think I just met the wrong people. My boyfriend was eighteen and he was calm and nice. He always had story's to tell which I loved.
He hugged me when I cried and told me his story's.
I trusted him like no one else. As I switched back to reality I realized that a tear was rolling down my chin. Damn it.
I think under all this stress I forgot to be hungry, but now, as I was calm and tired the hunger came back. Maybe in this house wasn't even a murderer. Maybe all the people who were captured in this room died because they were too hungry and got nothing to eat. I thought of Jesus, he could survive over a month without food, maybe I would survive one week.
I was also very thirsty so I went to the sink and hoped that it worked.
"Please work, please work.", I whispered again and as I pulled the knob water came out. Yes!! I laughed and made pirouettes even though I didn't know how they worked. I drank until I felt like my belly was just seconds away to explode.
With a smile on my face I fell on the mattress again, but this time, something was hurting at my back. I jumped from the mattress and searched the thing but I found nothing.
I touched the mattress and felt something.
There was something under it. I turned the mattress around but nothing under it, and nothing on it. But as I lay down, I felt this uncomfortable thing again.
Was there something inside of the mattress?
Of course I had to find it out, so I started to dug into it. My nails destroyed the material and all the little pieces of mattress lay on the floor, like sand. Suddenly something stung into my finger and I held it up. Blood.
I looked into the mattress hole and saw something that looked really sharp. I grabbed a little bit deeper and pulled it out. my mouth fell open when I saw a knife.
It was sparkling in the light emanating from the ceiling.
I crawled to the wall and whispered: "Derek!" no answer.
Now a bit louder "Derek!" still no answer.
he was definitely asleep and I was jealous. How could a person fell asleep under this hard light which shines into your eyes directly into your brain?
I stared at the knife way to long. Gosh, I needed to stop staring at things.
I neared the chest and stung my knife into the key lock. After three times I heard a 'klick' and as I tried to open the chest it worked.
With shaking hands and a fast heartbeat I looked into it.
And shocked. eat. I thought of Jesus, he could survive over a month without food, maybe I would survive one week.
