CHAPTER FIVE
prank war pt. 1WINONA ONLY FOUND joy in Quidditch when Roxanne and Maurine played. But during most matches, her mind wandered to other places. Normally, Winona would've worried about exams and classes, but the competition was all she could think about.
The effect of being alone in the library with James still lingered. She couldn't figure him out, not completely. He's playing fair. Why? Why not manipulate the competition himself? She assumed he would keep his promise from cheating for the first few weeks, but he was just as dedicated to his promise as the day he made it. They were currently tied in points.
It was set in stone then, he's doing this.
She analyzed the list of rules he had given her. She purposely didn't mention how much control he had in this competition. Starting it, creating rules, what more did he want? Winona didn't mind it though. She wanted to watch James lose under his control.
Winona shook those thoughts away and focused back on the match, hoping to catch a glimpse or two of Rox and Maurine. The seats were raised high up in the air; binoculars were required to view the match. Winona ditched the effort to hold up the banner she made for Maurine. Lucy did the same for Rox. Gryffindor had similar banners for James, Roxanne, and Fred — star players of their team.
"Look, it's Rox!" Molly shouted. She lifted her banner for Roxanne higher until she stood on her tiptoes. Winona did the same with the banner she had for Maurine.
Roxanne played for the Gryffindor team and Maurine played for the Hufflepuffs, being on opposing teams didn't affect their relationship. They weren't competitive like Louis and James.
During the match, Winona did her best to ignore James which was particularly difficult as he kept passing to Roxanne and she did the same for him. And he was the Gryffindor Quidditch captain, so avoiding him was more difficult than she anticipated.
"Your friend is shit!" A boy from Hufflepuff shouted.
"It's only Quidditch!" Molly shouted back, "we can cheer for friends on opposing teams!"
The boy muttered a fucking bitch and turned his attention back to the match.
Winona wouldn't let him off that easily.
She stood from her seat and faced the boy. "The only bitch I see is you!" she shouted back, "take a look at the scoreboard."
Gryffindor was dangerously close to winning thanks to Roxanne. Hufflepuff was dangerously close to surpassing them, but if Gryffindor kept scoring, Hufflepuff wouldn't be able to surpass them.
"Roxanne Weasley is dangerously close to winning for Gryffindor, you want to call that shit?"
The boy turned a shade of red. The other boy next to him seemed more angry than embarrassed. "I don't hit girls but I just might make an exception for you," his friend breathed.
