I love my best friend I really do. But when she drags me away from a smokin' hot guy at a party I might just kill her.

Layla stopped outside my small house.

"Good luck," she whispered as she slowly pulled away from the curb.

"Thanks," was all I had time to say.

I stumbled up the front steps to the door. I tried to turn the nob but failed. It was locked. Just great. Going through the shoes on the step I pulled out the key I had hidden earlier, I didn't want to lose it at the party.

Swinging the door open I staggered in. A sight gust of wind slammed the door shut. Bam. I am so dead if I hadn't woken mum up already she would be up now.

Passing the phone I noticed the little red light on the answering machine. 5 messages, someones popular. May as well check it, it's not like I could be in any more trouble now. I pressed play and listened for the messages.

"Hey honey, I'll be home in about half an hour, maybe we could still go out. Love you, mum"

The time stamp read 6:30 shit.

"Casey, call me, we need to talk as soon as you get home."

7:12

"I've been home, gone to the bakery, your not working tonight, where are you? I'm going out to find you. Call me as soon as you get home,"

7:43

Mums worried voice rang through the machine.

"Miss Grey, there has been an accident, you mother is being rushed to emergency at the hospital and is in an unstable condition." A male voice said.

7:58

My heart sank, that was just minutes after her call.

"Hello, this is Stephen Karachi, I'm a doctor in the emergency department of the hospital. I regret to inform you that when you mother was in the ambulance she had a heart attack as a result of the car accident, and was pronounced dead on arrival. My condolences to you and the rest of your family, she was a truly amazing person."

I slowly sank to the floor in shock. My eyes started to water. Mum was gone. she was never coming back. no more notes left on the bench, or phone calls just to say hello. Mum had been in an accident, which killed her. While I was out at a party. She was worried sick, while I hadn't a care in the world. It was my fault, I should have been home. If she wasn't looking for me she wouldn't have been hit. It was my fault. I am responsible for her death. All me.

I laid on the floor and cried. Everything she's done for me. Raising me by herself. This is how I thank her, not being there, causing her grief in her last moments. She died looking for me.
