Run. That's what she was told to do. So that's what she did.
The teenage girl was running through the dark streets, the urban town she lived in having an eerie environment as the fog crept up and swallowed her. The moon lit up the path for her as a siren echoed through the area. As the rain lightly patted against the ground, the splashes of puddles she ran through added to the scene's sound. The girl sprinted past a corner as she saw a red glint out of the corner of her eye. She was sure that they had found her. Her mother reported her after she accidentally hurt their friend. He was weird and big and forced her to sit on his lap... She would not listen. And look at it now. She was running from them. The siren that warned people not to be outside was loud in her ears, accompanied by her heartbeat.
Her mom had reported her. All she was told was to run. Not where. As her legs were burning, she refused to stop. She was not used to this type of stress. She would be imprisoned if she was lucky! The girl's pants of exhaustion went through her ears as she ran around another corner to see a drone's red lens pulsate in her direction. Her eyes widened as she rushed to the closest corner-
The girl made a right turn to run into a man. Falling to the ground, she held her hand out protectively as she looked away, hoping not to be hurt. She could see the man from the corner of her eye. His robotic suit would have its parts lightly glinted in the moonlight as the whir of the suit would have him raise his weapon towards her. He was one of them. It was impossible not to be. "Please! Don't hurt me!" She yelled out, hoping for some saviour to come along. But it seemed hopeless. She was there by herself, and no one was there for her. This was the end of the story. Then, as the girl's fearful dark blue eyes watched the man as he prepared to fire his weapon, a black and shiny thing collided with the A.S.H Squad member, "tackling" him into the wall and pulling him to the ground. The girl crawled backward as, from the dark side of the street, a man jogged over, going down not one knee as he looked her over. "You Ok?" The masked man asks, the moonlight allowing her to see his dark clothing. The girl lightly nodded to reply to the question. The man nodded as he looked back at the A.S.H Squad man. The black gooey substance would coil around the gun before pulling it towards the masked saviour. Unable to see their eyes behind the mask, she simply stared in amazement as he observed the gun, checking over ammunition and the firing mechanism, while the man covered in the black slime groaned in reluctance, trying to reach for the man before the slime grabbed onto his arm, pushing it to the ground. "Non-lethal... Taser... great." He commented as he looked back down at her. "We have to go." He muttered, grabbing her hand as he pulled her up and started to jog down the street.
"Why-... are you helping?" The girl asked, still having the adrenaline running through her veins, prepared to run at any moment.
"It's what I do." He simply asked as he continued in silence. The girl's head was running through thoughts. Was he a good guy? Whoever fights back against the A.S.H.S? They were usually favoured by the public. The Anti-SuperHuman Squads were treated like heroes by the media and the people. Was he... also a superhuman? She lightly pulled at his hand, as his cast-iron grip wasn't loosening.
"Are you one of those criminals?" She asked, as her fear did not cease. Superheroes, they called themselves. Her parents constantly complained about how much they ruined everyday life. The man continued In silence. "Why are you breaking the law? Isn't that-"
"The Law isn't just. Whatever you were taught about the law is not true. Law is supposed to be fair. I'm making sure that justice is still intact." He said, the deep voice breaking the silence.
And, as if on cue, one of the many drones was in front of them. Its red lens seemed to stare at the two. The girl gasped as the "hero" let go of her hand, holding his hand outwards towards the drone; the black substance formed again, drowning the flying robot. More A.S.H.S soldiers turned the corner as they saw the two, starting to fire their weapons at them. As bolts of pain-inflicting rounds passed them, the hero would fire back at them, pushing her down as a round barely missed her side, as she squealed out of surprise and fear. Being hit himself, he grunted as he kept firing a couple of rounds before he shooed her into an alleyway. Holding his side, he formed a wall behind them, separating the soldiers from them.
