<<The entrance way>>
I was just looking through the window of the car when I really took account of my life. I hadn't really taken account of what I was doing, simply going from day to day life without a real care for what I accomplished. I guess it was a good thing. Up until this point, nothing bad had gone wrong.
I checked my watch. Five minutes early, as usual. My driver had just pulled up to the building, err, my building. I really need to come to terms that I now own a skyscraper in New York because by next week, there will be three others in major cities across the globe. London, Beijing, and Sydney, to be exact. The "triplets" will be the new additions to my *cough* empire (that word gives me chills) on this earth. I have also gotten offers for a space station addition to the Russian station, but I'll deal with that when I have to deal with the them.

My driver opens the door for me and hands me out, onto the side walk next to the used-to-be hotel steps. The reason why I love this building. It's full of the rich colors and old brass of the original hotel, compared to the drab silver in other corporations.

At the doors, my secretary, pardon, best friend Samantha handed me my chai and started rattling off the list of things needed to be done today. Samantha an I are going to the same college. I'm going for medical, she is going for business. I was going to give the job to someone maybe a bit more experienced, but it turns out there were no "adults" wanted to work for the up-and-coming "kid genius." I don't actually mind the genius part, the <kid> is what irks me. I'm 19 and got ahead in the world. That doesn't facilitate that people should go around calling me silly names, acting like children themselves.
"A meeting with the new interns, then you have to sort through the designs for the new buildings. Lunch. A meeting with the construction director. Going through the media interviews and picking one to actually go to. Looking through and signing the stack of papers on your desk. Then we can go to dinner. Oh, and your office is done." She says all of this before we have gotten in the doors.

"Has your desk arrived?" I ask, opening the door for her and her bundle of brief case, iPad, and what-nots. God bless her for being prepared.
"Yes, and I set it up yesterday while you were at the meeting with the governor about the credentials and such." She says while scrolling through her iPad. "Good job at your interview. The media ate it up and you didn't even "throw anybody under the bus" as the newspaper so eloquently states." She grins at me as we reach the elevator and I push the button. "They also added that you handled the situations better then the 'old guys' of the business. You really had a good teacher, didn't you?" She's the one who was yelling at me to not mess up the days before it. We grin at each other as we step into the beautiful elevator. Champagne and burgundy. Who knew?
"Your the one who brought hell down on the speech I wrote. It's all thanks to you." I say, sticking my tongue out once the doors slide closed.
She does a side ways smile.
"My assistant actually brought hell down on that speech. I was too busy writing your conclusion statement cause the one you wrote, sucked."
I rolled my eyes. So what? I wasn't the best 'go out with a boom' person. It had been okay, I think.
The elevator dings and we step out onto the top floor, my new office space.
The space had originally been the pent house suite and included a pool and hot tub. I decided to leave them and even upgraded them while I was at it.

The space is sectioned off into four main rooms. Samantha's office which consists of the first room so she may direct people who make it to the top floor, the conference room, flanked by the restrooms, the pool and jacuzzi area, and finally, my office. It has an en suite bathroom, behind a painting, of course. It's an old hotel, I thought it was cool.
Samantha goes to her desk and sits down, beginning her stuff and leaving me to deal with the big decisions waiting in my new office.
Running into the room, I squealed from excitement. I have never had an office before. Give me a break, I'm excited!
As I walked in, I'm hit with my favorite smell in the world, coffee. I hate the drink but love the smell. It's not over bearing or faint, just right. Everything is how I had planned it to be. That's what money does, plus a few burly people. The colors all match and my desk is sitting behind this scary window, I forgot to mention. The window is floor to ceiling and takes up the entire back of the room giving me an amazing view of half of Central Park and New York City.
I turn away from the view to begin paperwork. Ew. When I was looking at my future, I never thought I would be doing paperwork at 19. Weird how life works. It must be karma!!

<<A bit later>>

Ookaaay, that was not fun. I now see the truth in what those adults were talking about.
I sit back for a minute just enjoying sitting when there is a knock at the door.
"Enter."I say, expecting Samantha.
She enters, walking in while not even looking up from her iPad. I think she likes that thing. "Try saying something else, like a very peasant 'come in,' please!"
I pout, even if she isn't looking, it wasn't that bad.
"The interns are all seated in the rec. room on the 25 floor." She says sitting down on one of the couches and finally putting the technology down. "They expect you there around," she checks her watch, "10:45. So 10:40 because you have to set an example." She smiles smugly at me.
I pout again before taking a deep breathe and resigning myself to my fate.
"Is it going to be a one on one thing or should I just pick a group of them?"
Samantha thinks a bit before looking back at me and breathes out, lifting her head to look at the ceiling. "One on one. These guys had background checks, resume checks, went through security, got grades checked, university, ability, and have already gone through our 24 floor person. They have been thoroughly picked and prodded, you just have to pick the people. The ones you think will do good."She finishes, rubbing at the bridge of her nose where her reading glasses would sit.
My sigh mimics hers in defeat. I check my clock. "I'll leave now and get there around 40. I did all the paper work, I just have the stack that needs signatures left."
I stand up and am opening the door when Sam speaks again.
"There was a guy from Griffin's corporation that came in and made an appointment for his boss. With you. Tomorrow. At noon. For lunch with a bunch of the corporation heads."
"Okay, so, a bunch of old perverts who want to intimidate me, right?" I say with my hands on my hips. "What gun should I bring?"
We both giggle a bit at the thought.
"Are you coming?" I ask her, hand going to the door knob.
"Nope," she pops the P. "You get to deal with the oldies alone cause your the brains, BOSS." She accents again. She must like doing that.
"Fine." I say exasperated. Turning to leave again, I wave over my shoulder as I open the door.
I close the door and make my way across the open space to the elevator. The only thing left of the old elevator is the floor dial. I think it's cool and it freaks out the people who aren't used to it. The arrow can go in a complete circle and points at whatever floor it's at. Presently, it is resting at 64.
"Animal research." I say out loud to myself. Jeez, too many floors to this building.
I press the button and watch the arrow move.
I wonder what the interns are like. I hope they don't go to college as me and Samantha. That would be... just no. It's a possibility, though, considering that most of them are in college.
The elevator arrives and I step on. I press the old button.
What if there are people who are in any of my classes?
What do I do? Oh god, why did I have to start this thing? This is gonna be so awkward! My interns will be like the same age as me!! GAH!! They will be the same age as me!!! I need to stop acting like a child, but this is serious!!!!

There is a ding and the doors open. I press the button for the 24th floor.
The 24 floor is just rec rooms and break rooms for the employees to be on break and eat lunch or whatever. I put a few ping pong tables in and then suddenly, everyone loved me. Pfft, they already loved me. I cured head aches.
Oh, did I forget to mention that?
