Alvira slowly opened her eyes as the incessant banging on her door cut through her dream. She sat up and looked at the time on her phone. 6 am on a cold November weekend. Who the hell would be banging on my door at this ungodly hour? She slipped off the bed and traipsed out of the bedroom and over to the door to her dorm, grumbling quietly as she opened it. Standing there was Ms. Robertson, the old-fashioned, beady-eyed resident hall advisor. Behind her was a boy with light brown hair and hazel eyes. Alvira noticed him staring at her, his brows furrowed. Staring back at him, particularly his beautiful hazel eyes, she realized she had forgot to put her colored contacts in and slammed the door shut. Alvira darted back into her room and fumbled slightly as she put her blue contacts in. She glanced in the mirror and pulled her black waist length mass of hair into a messy bun. She nodded at her reflection and went back to the door, opening it and stepping aside while smiling apologetically.
Ms. Robertson led the brown haired boy inside and gave Alvira a disapproving look as she closed the door behind them. They sat on the small couch, Alvira sitting across from them on a chair. She kept a wary eye on the boy. She recognized him from somewhere, but couldn't place exactly where. He kept his eyes aimed down, focusing on his hands as Ms. Robertson began introducing the two.
"Miss. Silvano, this is Mr. Draven Miller. He's in the same graphic design program as you."
The boy, Draven, looked up from his hands and gave Alvira a small shy smile. She gave him the smallest twitch of a smile back as Ms. Robertson continued talking.
"The building he's currently residing in is being renovated. I understand there's only one bedroom and that you prefer to reside alone, but all the other dorms are fully occupied."
Alvira groaned inwardly. Great. Just great. I have to live with a human. A human male. Hopefully the renovations won't take too long. She faked a bright smile and tilted her head, feigning interest.
"That's perfectly fine. How long will the renovations take?"
At that, Draven stiffened. Alvira frowned slightly, confused by his reaction to her question. Ms. Robertson laughed nervously.
"That's the thing. They're estimating the finish date is going to be sometime in July. So about 9 months."
Alvira froze. 9 months? There's absolutely no possible way he won't find out. I'd have to threaten him not to tell. She closed her eyes for a split second before she smiled and nodded.
"It may not be ideal, but it's fine. We can figure out a suitable living arrangement within the next few days."
Ms. Robertson nodded approvingly. Draven smiled gratefully at Alvira as Ms. Robertson launched into the details and rules of the two living together. Alvira felt a smile tug at the corner of her mouth from the absurdity of this situation.
