Kenna's P.O.V.
It was Friday night, tomorrow I was throwing a seventh birthday party for the twins, at the Hayes house.
When Nick and I put the kids to bed tonight, they both said goodnight to me and Nick, calling him daddy again. It hasn't happened since Aubrey said it a few weeks ago. I wasn't sure what Nick thought about it since I never asked him before. I was scared that if Nick and I didn't work out those kids we're going to be heartbroken. I've never had a serious relationship before, this was so new to me. I was just about nineteen and here I am, completely and utterly in love with Nick Hayes. He said he loved me, and showed me daily that he does, but was he ready for kids? Was he ready to be tied down to me? I was freaking out with all these emotions. I didn't want him to have regrets, or holding back from a life he truly wanted.
I was laying in Nick's arms thinking of all this stuff when Nick interrupted my thoughts. "Babe, you look like you're a thousand miles away. What's wrong?"
I looked into his eyes. "Can I ask you something?"
"Of course, always."
"Does it bother you that Aubrey called you Daddy a few weeks ago, and then again tonight both did? I'm just thinking that if you don't want this, maybe we should leave, before they become even more attached to you."
He rolled on top of me, "I… love… you! I love those kids, and I love the fact they think of me like that-"
"But, I don't want you to feel obligated to them or to me-"
"Would you let me finish, woman?"
"Sorry!"
He smiled, "When she called me daddy, it didn't even scare me, because I guess I figured I would be their dad someday. Before you, I was miserable, I didn't want to smile because I felt there was nothing to smile about, and then I met you. I don't ever plan on letting you go, and I know that involves the twins, and I'm okay with that. I don't want anyone else, I want this life that we're living right now, just maybe with you having a different title someday."
"You're not scared?"
"Why would I be? Is it because we're so young? My parents were eighteen when they got married and look at them… they're more happy now, than ever. I want that with you!"
"Me too. "I love you."
"I love you too, my queen."
*******
It was the day of Mason and Aubrey's birthday party, and I was tired. Nick and I were up pretty late last night making love.
I'm so glad that I talked with Nick last night. It reassured me that this was the life the twins and I were going to have, and I was so happy Nick wanted to be a part of that. It didn't matter that he was going to be the gang leader someday to the most dangerous gang in New York. He was going to keep us safe. Alec and Kay would be with us every step of the way, helping us and guiding us along the way.
Ms. Kay, Blake and I were taking all the food out to the back area we had set up. The kids were in the pool with Nick and Alec, goofing around. Ivan and Bryan we're spraying them all with water pistols. I couldn't help but laugh at all of them.
Joe was just finishing up grilling the hamburgers.
"Mason, Aubrey… time for lunch babies, come on."
They all got out of the pool and dried off. We sat down and ate lunch.
Ivan was sitting next to me, "You look happy sweetheart."
I smiled, "I really am."
"Good, because you deserve it. I really do like Nick, I think he is good for you. He's really good with those kids too."
"He really is, isn't he!"
After lunch it was time for gifts. Mason and Aubrey we're opening all their gifts, when Nick walked over with two more.
"They already opened yours?"
"Yeah, I got them something else too." He said, with a wink.
Confused I watched as Mason and Aubrey opened two beautiful necklaces.
Both the kids beamed at the necklaces before them, Nick put the cross around Mason's neck. "Now, you have one that matches mine, buddy.""So cool, Thanks Daddy!" He threw his arms around Nick, giving him a hug.
Next he took Aubrey's dragonfly necklace out, putting it around her neck. "I know how much you and your mommy love dragonflies, so I thought this would look beautiful on you."
"Mommy look!"
"It's beautiful, sweetheart." I said, getting a little choked up.
I watched as she wrapped her arms around Nick's neck. "Thank you, Daddy!"
"You're welcome, honey."
"Nick, You're sooo going to get laid tonight." Joe teased.
I nodded my head with a smile and tears in my eyes.
Everybody started laughing. Nick walked up to me and gave me a passionate kiss. When we pulled away, I was still smiling. "Thank you for that," pointing over to the twins. "You're so sweet, those necklaces are beautiful."
"I'm not done yet, I got you something too." He sat me down on the chair and knelt down in front of me, lifting up my leg so it was resting on his knee.
I gave him a confused look as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a gorgeous anklet and hooked it around my ankle. It too had a dragonfly on it.
"Oh Nick. It's gorgeous, I love it… thank you."
"I saw it when I was picking out their necklaces and I had to get it for you. I love you my Queen."
I love you too, my King."
I leaned in and gave him another kiss.
"You're definitely getting laid tonight." I whispered.
