Hawkins, Indiana 1958
"YOUR LEAVING?" Joyce was furious, she feels like she can punch a whole in the wall if she could. He was leaving and she didn't want him too
"WELL WHAT ELS AM I SUPPOSED TO DO HUH? I HAVE NOTHING HERE FOR ME!" Hopper was leaving for Vietnam and he knew that Joyce didn't want him to go. He couldn't get into any college's and an application for Vietnam was his only hope.
"YOU HAVE ME! GOD WHAT HAPPENED TO BEING IN COLLEGE TOGETHER AND BEING BEST FRIENDS UNTIL THE END. THATS ALL GONE NOW RIGHT? BECAUSE YOUR LEAVING ME!" A moment of silence went by. "When are you leaving?"
"Tomorrow... look it's only for a couple of years and I will be back and come see you" Joyce cut him off before he could finish.
"Yea and what if you don't. I don't know if I can live with the fact that your gone" Joyce was sitting on her bed with her head in her hands.
"I'm going to come back, I will come see you and your asswhole boyfriend, your gonna have lots of kids. Your gonna be fine it's ok, your gonna be fine without me for a while...you don't need me...you can do all of this on your own." He was attempting to calm her down but her rage was at a state that was unbreakable.
"If you walk out that door I don't want to ever see you again because I'm not waiting for the day that your gonna come back." She stands up and point at him with tears streaming down her face.
"Really? After everything we've been through? Your just gonna give up because I'm leaving?"
"Like you said I don't need you, I have Lonnie and to be honest I'm happy with him, he even said he wants to marry my one day. Yeah so go...leave...I don't need you."
"Ok, if that's what you want"
Seeing Hopper walk out of her bedroom door, then out the front door, watching him drive off made her heart beat louder and harder than it has ever did. After she closes her bedroom door, all she could do is scream and sink to the floor. A panic attack sets in, with her not knowing what to do this could end up pretty bad
They both had fought about this before, Joyce gave him the choice to go or stay, and Hopper couldn't stay, he couldn't stay here and watch his best friend that he has loved since 7th grade and has had a crush on since they met in 3rd be in love with someone else. Of course he was happy for her but it hurt him too much.
4 Years LaterJoyce and Lonnie Finnished up College, Hopper and Joyce both knew that he wouldn't be back in a few years he just said that to make them both feel better. Joyce and Lonnie were getting married, and the one person she wanted there more than anyone else wasn't there. She said she didn't want to see him again so she couldn't let herself miss him. She hated thinking about him all the time on this day.
"Do you Lonnie Byers take Joyce Horowitz to be your lawfully wedded wife?" The minister asked Lonnie
"I do" Lonnie was smiling, he was so exited.
"And do you. Joyce Horowitz take Lonnie Byers to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
"....I do" Joyce didn't say it with as much excitement than Lonnie did, still thinking about him and she knew it was wrong
5 years later
Lonnie lost his job, he went to drinking which wasn't the best but it was the only thing keeping him going. Joyce started to work at Melvald's General store, it was all she could get.
