"So what is your last errand ?" I question her.
"I need to drop some papers off at the DoCoust building and sign my new contract." She looks at me out of the corner of her eye. When, I let out a lofty sigh.
"Oh come on it can't be that bad." she grunted a giggle. Patting my leg as we rode the limo uptown. We get up to the twenty floor of the DoCoust building,
"Marion will you let Tad know I am here please?" She talks to an attractive female sitting at the receptionist desk.
"Mrs. Fitzgerald, he will see you now." The woman says before we had a chance to sit. I walk to his office with her.
We walked in to a huge office which use to be his daddy's. I remember years ago coming here with her and his dad letting me stand on his desk. He was a kind old man.
"Well ladies what do I owe this pleasure to?" He stands from behind his mahogany desk. Meme sits down in the chair.
"You said I needed to sign something this morning."
"Oh yeah right." He walks over to the filing cabinet and pulls out a hefty large file.He slides out a single piece of paper from the back of the file.
"This is just your usual agreement." He slides the paper over for her to sign.
"So any ideas yet for another book?"
"I am still researching." She signs the document and pushes it back to him.
"Oh before I forget."He walks back over to his filing cabinet opening the bottom drawer and pulls out a silver gift bag.
"For you welcome back home." He hands me the gift I snort as I reach down pulling tissue out.I pull out a little box. Removed the lid it was a miniature statue of the Lady liberty with a diamond in the center of her crown. I looked at him then back down at the gift amused. I placed it back in the box and back in the bag not really knowing what to say. Why the hell is this man buying me gifts. My thoughts were interrupted
"Now wasn't that sweet thing to do. Thank him for the gift Lola." Meme tugs at my blazer.
"Oh yes thank you so much Mr. DoCoust. It is absolutely beautiful." I put it back in the bag. I grit my teeth as I thank him politely.
"Ok meme you ready to go.I help her up from the chair. We headed home. I told her about my job that I start tonight kind of proud it didn't take long to get one.
"A waste of your education child." she shakes her head as if displeased with the idea.
"This is gonna help me get on the right track trust me Meme." I pat her back. She gave me a crossed look. Saying nothing more till we got back home.
She goes into her study and shuts the door. Usually you would her the banging sound of the typewriter keys hitting the paper at a rapid speed but it was oddly quiet. I peek my head through the door.
"Is everything ok?" I asked worried. She nods her head then shews me out the door. She sat in there for hours no noise coming from her study.I decided to place my ear on the door to see if I could hear what she was doing. The ringing of the doorbell startled me I gasp. Meme came out of her study quickly passing me to see who had come to visit. Opening the door in her sweet old lady voice.
"What do we owe this pleasure to?"
"Your granddaughter abandoned her gift." He says as a smirk grin crosses his face.
"Oh well come on in. You are more than welcome to stay for dinner. We were going to order Lola's favorite Chinese before she heads to her new job in the city." I look at her in shock. If I didn't know any better. I would think he was just making up excuses to come by.
