I set the items on the couch and walked back to bed. I laid down and Karla turned to me groggily.

"Who was it?" She asked.

"Just a police man." I replied.

Karla then sat up and asked me why there was a police officer at the door at 4:08 in the morning.

" He just gave me some things, said a sickness was going around so he wanted to provide us with some safety items given by the the community. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. The last sickness that went around was nothing more than a stomach flu. I'm sure this is nothing different."

My wife looked at me horrified. I knew I shouldn't of told her that. She overreacted to everything!

" What if this is serious?! Most of the time they don't provide us with a SURVIVAL kit! What if it is this really bad and can't be cured? What will happen to Kyle?! Or to you? Or to me! What will happ-"

" Karla.. Calm.. Down. Nothing will happen."

She took a deep breath and nodded her head.

" Yeah, you're right." She agreed.

She then laid back down.

The next morning, I woke up at 6:30 as usual. I got showered, dressed, then went into Kyle's room. " Hey dude, c'mon it's time to get up." Kyle grumbled at me and pulled the covers over his head. I then smiled. Kyle never wants to get up and theirs only one way to get him up. I got closer to him and started doing the jaws theme. When the fast part came I started to tickle him. Kyle started to laugh and tried to push me off. I chuckled then picked him up. " Wakey wake kiddo!" I then took him into the kitchen when Karla motioned me over. I put down Kyle told him to go get dressed and went over to her. " Kyle's school called, there's no school today. This sickness thing is pretty serious. My work also called and said work was canceled due to, get this, " Lack of employees" and Tracy texted me earlier and said over half the staff called in sick and like 30 of them are in the hospital. It's really bad. Almost every hospital in the region is filled. No wonder why we got that kit!" I put my hand on her shoulder. " Calm down. Everything will be okay, I promise. I won't let anything happen to you and Kyle." She tried to smile and nodded her head. Karla then hugged me and started to cry. I kissed her head and looked to see Kyle. " Why is Mom crying?" I let go of Karla and kneeled down to him. " Mommy is just sad because one of her friends got sick. But guess what! No school today!" Kyle seemed like he didn't hear the part about school because he went up to Karla, hugged her and told her that her friend would get better. she hugged him and said that she hoped.

Later in the morning, I also got a call cancelling work, so for the rest of day Kyle, Karla, and I watched Netflix. It was a pretty enjoyable day until Karla got another phone call. She stood up and went into the other room. I then turned my attention back onto Tom Hanks In Castaway. Karla then taps me on the shoulder and motions for me to go to the kitchen. I pat Kyle's head then walk to meet Karla in the kitchen.

She looks so pale when she hands me her phone. I put it up to my ear and hear the familiar emergency broadcast test, but instead of the normal thing I hear this," I repeat this is not a test please put on the masks given to you, secure all entries , and do not, I repeat, Do not leave your homes. good night and God Bless America." I look at Karla and try to smile," Well let's get the masks, you talk to Kyle, I start to secure the doors and windows. After that we'll start to gather our non perishables and water, okay? Everything will be okay." She nods and goes to get the masks. I sigh and go down stairs to the basement to get some wood, nails, and a hammer.

After I come back from the basement, Karla hands me a gas mask. I kiss her cheek and go to the kitchen and start to board up the windows.I start to wander if this whole sickness could be much more dangerous than I thought. Perhaps we should start preparing and treating it like it was from an Apocalypse movie. Start purifying the tap water and putting it in gallons, make an indoor garden, go out and collect can foods and bottled water, ( plus the extras like razors, and lady stuff for Karla ) or should we just not panic and go over our heads?

Finally after I finished blocking up every window, locking every door, purifying every gallon of tap water I could, the time to sleep has come. My body ached in every place possible, I wanted to sleep, but I hardly could. My mind was filled with the sick people, with apocalypses, and dead family.
