Devyn and Joel exchanged glances as they went into the other room on the other side of the building.
As they entered, Devyn froze as she saw mutilated bodies, a sign of hunters generally being in the area.
"Woah.."
Rowan had a handful of a few papers and notes in his hands as he handed them to her.
"The infected? They were hunters that were camping here a few days after Blake left. They must have been attacked after not checking the perimeter.
"The gate being open?" She asked,
"Probably an attempt to escape and they didn't make it. But, they weren't good people that's for sure."
Joel looked around the room and out the window, seeing a clear exit through an alley that leads to a cabin that probably leads to another path.
"See that path? That's our way out. If that group was hunters before? Then we need to keep our eyes peeled for any living hunters that could still be hiding in the area."
The three nodded in agreement, Blake and Joel left the building first to check for surroundings and signaled Devyn and Rowan to leave as well.
They hopped over a car onto a bus to hop into the alley, walking through, keeping their eyes open and had seen the fence to the cabin broken for easy access.
As they approached the fence, they started to hear faint speaking from the remaining hunters in town.
"Shit.. I knew there was still some left.." Devyn cursed. "What do we do Joel?"
"Stay quiet. Blake and I will strangel two of them while you and Rowan run past."
As they watched the men walk and talk, splitting into different directions while Joel and Blake quickly snuck in and took out the men at the same time.
Devyn and Rowan quickly rushed through but were stopped when they heard a few more men yell at them after walking in.
"Hey!"
"Shit!" Joel pulled out his gun and started shooting while Blake was fighting another off with a bat.
"Devyn! The window!" Rowan shouted as he ran and quickly hopped to get through it.
"We need to help Joel and Blake!"
"Then go help them while I cause a diversion! Hey! Dumbasses!" He caught the attention from two men as Devyn ducked down and slipped away from them to go and help the boys.
"Joel? Blake?" She saw Joel kick a guy in the face, followed by crushing him against a wall as Blake shouted in distress.
"Devyn!"
The sound of distress triggered something in Devyn, causing her to rush at the man attacking him and shoving a blade through his skin several times, as well as one more man that was left but Joel had put another bullet through his head.
"Devyn! Stop!" He pulled her away from the body as she dropped the broken shiv and she snapped out of it.
Her breathing was heavy, and her skin was a bit pale. "I.. did I get him..?"
Blake was horrified, Joel nodded and pulled her away further. "Yeah.. yeah you got him."
"I'm sorry.. I didn't mean-"
"No no, it's okay.. you saved him. Come on,"
After Rowan took out his two guys, he helped everyone out of the window, and they left through more forest as it started to get dark.
And they had no intention of stopping.

Day 3
Walking along a road, the group was exhausted, only making a few stops in the past two days was taking a toll on them.
The amount of sleep that was lost made it more likely to save a day from travel, making it easier to get there faster.
Devyn walked and took in the scenery around her, the amount of travel she's done, she's barely been through Colorado, and for being in a pandemic, it still had its pretty nature.
"So Rowan, what happened to the base in South Dakota?"
"It was blown up. Fireflies infiltrated the area before they disappeared, Taylor and I took the group we had left and found refuge in an old warehouse. We built off of that. Like your home, we built a town, a trading service to keep everyone alive."
"So this.. Taylor character, what does she have to do with Devyn getting better?" Joel asked.
"Taylor knows about me, she was traveling to try and figure out a way to prevent side effects that would eventually take place."
"The side effects are altering her body, reconstructing anything and everything to try to turn her into an infected." Rowan sighed, "But we need to figure out how to subside it."
"Right.."
Blake had gone ahead to the end of the road that broke off at a bridge, looking over the scenery to see their town in the distance.
"Guys! Look,"
The four of them had seen lights and gates, patrol at all corners and perimeters.
"Here we are.."
"Let's get a move on." Rowan led them down and around through a tunnel, and they exited through the mountains and they turned a corner to some patrol soldiers who were guarding.
"Stop! Don't move!"
They stopped and put their hands up.
"Ah shit.." Rowan cursed.
Blake tried to stop them, "U-uh.. guys it's me Blake?? I'm in Taylor's-"
"We don't give a shit who you are, hands up and on-"
A new voice interrupted the soldier, "Alright alright, chill out. They're with me."
There stood a woman the same height as Devyn, her hair was fiery red, her eyes were an amber brown and her skin was covered in freckles.
"Nice to see you again, Devyn."
Devyn smiled and let out a sigh of relief.
"Taylor..."
