Taylor stood up as Devyn rushed to Blake, picking him up and holding him in her arms while he held his side and blood dripped down his mouth.
"Blake, hey hey.. Stay with me okay?" She held back tears while he coughed.
"D-Devyn.. you have to go.."
"No! I won't leave you here to die!"
Joel stood up quickly as he saw Taylor and Rowan ran out of the room to escape.
"Devyn, we gotta get out of here! They're getting away!" Joel shouted.
"Joel we can't leave him here!"
Blake gripped my shirt, smearing blood on the sleeve, "Dev.. go. I'll be okay," He smiled weakly, "You may not be able to give us a cure.. but go and rid this world of people like them."
Devyn started crying and she nodded, while Joel helped her up.
"Come on baby, let's go.."
"Blake, we will come back for you!" She yelled as she exited with Joel and Blake smiled.
"I know you will.." He laid on the ground and slowly closed his eyes.
Devyn and Joel rushed down the halls of the building, and as he shot at the men who were coming at them, Rowan turned to Taylor.
"Go! I'll buy you some time to get out of here!"
Taylor nodded and picked up a gun from a fallen soldier, "Don't kill him though, that's my job."
Rowan scoffed as he saw Joel and Devyn stop in from of him.
He pointed his gun at them, "Stop now, there's no point in trying anymore. Just give up, and let us help our people!"
Joel whispered to Devyn, "You gotta get to the roof, let me take care of this.."
"But Joel your arm-"
"I got it Dev, you need to get to Taylor." He nodded with confidence and she nodded back, running by to get passed Rowan when he shot at her, but the bullet only grazed the surface of her arm.
Joel took the opportunity to shoot him in the leg, knocking him down walking over to him, placing his foot on his chest.
Rowan coughed, "Stop.."
"You thought I didn't know what I was doin, you thought I wouldn't get her out of there, well I have news for you, this ain't our first rodeo." He shot his arm and Rowan cried out in pain.
"Gah!!- S-stop! Stop, we did it to save humanity!"
"No, you did it so you can get the fucking credit and money."
Joel aimed the gun at Rowan's head and Rowan started to beg, "No please! If you kill me you'll never know how to fix her condition even if she's not used for a cure!"
Joel stopped, "What do you mean 'fix her condition'?"
"..."
"TALK."
"Okay okay, there's a way to do surgery and remove some of the fungus and combine with some chemicals to boost her immunity and get it stable."
"...and how do I know you ain't lyin?"
"Because the documents are in that room.. you need me, you won't know what resources to use without me!"
Joel let out a small chuckle, pointing the gun at his head, "I think we can handle it."
Without another response, he pulls the trigger, and lets out a breath and a wince from the shocking pains in his arm as he rushed to catch up with Devyn.
Devyn picked up her speed and managed to catch up to Taylor on her way to the roof. It was very stormy out and the rain poured onto them while the wind blew, Taylor stood in the middle and pointed her gun at Devyn.
"Stay right there! Don't fucking move!"
Devyn stopped and slowly put her hands up, "Taylor.. put the gun down-"
"NO! Do you realize how long it took us to find you!? To rebuild our civilization without you? You fucked us over! You knew you could change the world because you were different, and you put up a fucking fight even thought you had nothing to live for!"
"Nothing to live for..? Taylor I ran because my trust was gone! You lied to me, you lied about the Fireflies, you lied about the fires, you screwed me over! The only reason why I gave up and searched for the Fireflies years later was because I was in the mindset of giving up my life, and then I met Joel!"
"Fuck Joel! Do you know how many lives he's killed? How he's been on both sides? Have you ever thought about that!?"
"That's what you did.. didn't you? He saved me, he saved me when I was terrified of dying because I knew I wanted to live for him! Taylor, I know you, I know what happened to you when the outbreak started-"
Taylor shot at the ground.
"Shut up.. you don't know me, you never knew anything about me, all you knew was how to get on my fucking nerves.."
"Taylor.. please tell me why you're doing this.. what did I do!?"
Taylor's voice cracked as she let out a chuckle, "Infected killed my troops.. when you 'saved me' I was only found because I was hiding. You saw what they turned into, what they manifested into, and I had to help you kill them.. that's why I wanted a cure, to stop my friends from dying from those fucking things."
"Taylor.."
"But because of you.. I can't get that, and if I can't get a cure to help MY town, then why should you be able to walk?"
Taylor aimed the gun to shoot and Devyn quickly moved, running towards her while it went off and tackled her to the ground. Thunder boomed and lightning beamed through the sky when Devyn felt a sharp pain in her side after hearing the gun go off again.
Taylor took the advantage and rolled them over, getting up and slamming her foot into Devyn's ribs, hearing cries of pain erupt from her. Getting several kicks over and over, the thunder boomed when Taylor finally stopped.
"Are you done?" she smirked as she looked at Devyn's exhausted expression.
"s-sto-p.."
Taylor raised her gun to her head, but was shot and her body dropped to the ground. Devyn flinched when she heard a familiar voice, lifted her head to see a familiar face.
"Devyn! Look at me, look you're going to be okay," Blake held her when he as well winced from his own wound, and Joel rushed up to the two.
He noticed Taylor, shook his head and leaned down to help them up, carrying Devyn in his arms and helping Blake walk.
Devyn's breathing was faint, and her vision started becoming dark with a faint light. Joel started to notice her cold body getting limp, and when people from the outside started rushing in to help who didn't know what was going on, Joel screamed to his wife, pleading and begging for her to wake up.
Then it all went black.
