Lucinda stood in what she assumed to be Stella's room. The walls were painted a dark blue, with Death Note and Gravity Falls posters hanging on them. There was a bedside table next to a small bed with a blue comforter on top. It wasn't made; in fact the whole room was a bit of a mess. No wonder she got along so well with Travis.
There was also a desk and chair in the corner, but nothing on it. Clothes were thrown around the room, and there was a single stuffed dog sitting on the bed.
It reminded her of her room as a teenager, in a way. But it also had a sad energy to it. It just lowered her mood to be in the room. Was that how Stella felt?
Lucinda sighed. If she still had her magic, she could find and ask her herself. But she didn't have it.
She hoped finding Katelyn would bring back her memories somehow. She wasn't sure how but the hope was what kept her going. Maybe seeing her close friend again would reawaken that part of her.
"Lucinda!" Garroth called. She turned to the door. "Travis found the basement; you need to take a look at this." She followed him downstairs and into the living room. There, a part of the floor was pulled up to reveal a staircase.
"Woah," she breathed, "That was not there before."
"There's more," Garroth told her, "come downstairs." She followed him down the staircase and into the basement. To her surprise, the floor was sand, as if they were on the beach. And maybe they were... There were four prison cells in front of her, a storage area to her right, and doors leading somewhere else to her right.
She walked towards the prison cells and saw that there was writing on the sand floors of two of them. The door was open, so she walked inside to study the writing.
"You think this is where they were keeping Katelyn?" She asked. Garroth nodded. She looked back to the writing. It just seemed like a bunch of meaningless shapes in a line across the cell floor, no real reason for it. Travis and Aphmau came back into the room through the doors.
"Nothing over there but a bunch of empty rooms and halls." Travis said, "It looks like they moved as soon as we came looking for them."
"Do we have any idea where they might have gone?" Lucinda asked.
"No." Aphmau sighed. Great. So now not only did they have no idea where Katelyn was, they also had no way to contact her or know she was okay since they also didn't know where Stella was. Unless...Maybe this was a code of sorts. If she could decipher it, maybe it would tell her where they were.
"I think this might be a code," Lucinda said.
"A code?" Garroth asked.
"Yeah, like a secret language of writing. If I decipher it, maybe it could tell us where they are." She replied. Travis shrugged.
"Worth a shot," he said, "I'm going to ask the neighbors and see if they saw anyone leave and where they might've gone.
"I'll come with you." Garroth said.
"I'll stay here," Aphmau said, smiling at Lucinda. She smiled back before returning to the code. She was going to figure this out. She was going to find Katelyn, with or without magic.

Two hours later, Lucinda still hadn't cracked the code, and all Garroth and Travis had been able to find out was that a van had left the house late the night before and never came back.
Lucinda wouldn't give up, though. She stayed in the cell, studying and trying to make sense of the scribbles. Finally, she took a seat in the sad, careful not to harm the writing. That was when she saw it under the bed.
She bolted up; that was it. Carefully, she moved the bed out of the way. It was surprisingly light. Aphmau yawned.
"Found something?" She asked. Lucinda just nodded, too concentrated to answer. There, in the sand, was the alphabet. At first, it seemed unhelpful.
That was, until she saw that the letters under the better lined up with the markings on the other side of the cell. She took out a pen and paper and wrote it down. It seemed to be a key, but for what?
Then she realized there were markings in the other cell, too. She scrambled out of the cell and into the second one. Using the key she had found, she wrote out the message. It read:
'We've been taken to Lei Gordon's house. –Katelyn and Stella'
That was it. But it was enough. Enough to know they were both still alive and okay. Enough to find them.
She ran upstairs, followed by a confused looking Aphmau. Garroth and Travis sat in the living room in front of the coffee table. She came over and smacked the paper down on the table in front of them.
"What's this?" Travis asked.
"The answer." Lucinda smirked, "I told you I'd crack the code." Their eyes widened and Travis snatched the paper up.
"'We've been taken to Lei Gordon's house. Katelyn and Stella'," he read aloud.
"Who's Lei Gordon?" Aphmau asked.
"I have no idea, but if we ask around, we may be able to find him." Travis smiled, "Way to go, Lucinda!"
"Well what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Garroth said.
::::::::
"Lei Gordon?" Tristan repeated.
"Yeah, do you know who he is?" Garroth asked.
"Well, yeah, everyone does. He manages the tour building, and all the tour guides," he replied.
"Like Stella?" Travis questioned.
"Yeah, I guess." Tristan said.
"Can you tell us where he lives?" Aphmau asked.
"Uh...No, I don't know where he lives. Sorry," Tristan replied. Aphmau nodded. This was the fifth person they'd asked, and no one knew where he lived. She was getting tired of it.
"Here are your drinks," The waiter at the Deep End Diner, Leo, said, "enjoy."
"Thanks, Leo." Garroth replied, taking his drink and sipping sadly. As the waiter turned to leave, he got an idea. "Hey, Leo! You wouldn't happen to know where Lei Gordon lives, would you? We really need to find him."
"Oh, yeah I do." Leo replied with a smile.
"Really?" Lucinda asked.
"Yeah, he lives on a houseboat not too far from me. I can show you after my shift ends if you want." He told them.
"That would be great, thank you so much!" Travis said. Leo nodded before getting back to work.
Finally, they were getting somewhere. They were on their way to finding Katelyn and Stella, and getting their friend back. Soon, everything would be okay again. Right?
