Completely blue in the face and barely breathing, I quickly made my way to the Hospital Wing where Professor Snape was stood outside guarding. I was so out of breath, my energy levels barely enough to keep me standing upright. I tried to walk towards to door but he placed his hands firmly on my shoulders to stop me.
"You should not be here, Miss Wood." Snape said with his usual tone of angst towards me. I tried to regain my breath, slowly taking deep breaths and using the fact he had hold of me as a benefit.
"Is it Hermione?" I asked between intakes.
"You must return to the common room." He ignored me.
"Is it HERMIONE?" I shrieked but before Snape could retaliate, Dumbledore emerged from the Hospital wing, having heard my commotion. He gestured to Snape who let me go, only magnifying how much my legs felt like jelly.
"Do you need to sit? Madam Pom-"
"I'm fine!" I interrupted Dumbledore. How I hadn't been expelled baffled me on a daily basis. "Is it Hermione?"
I repeated myself for the third time. Professor Snape had stepped out of the way for Dumbledore who was now resting one of his large hands on my shoulder as my breath slowly came back to me. His eyes beamed into mine and they mirrored my pain.
"Yes, Kyla. It is Miss Granger." said Dumbledore. I was relieved for a very brief second before the daunt came over me. Hermione was petrified. The monster from the Chamber of Secrets had stolen one of my only friends.
I turned my back on both Dumbledore and Snape, biting the knuckle of my middle finger as I tried not to cry. Maybe if I had worked harder with them we could have solved this before this had happened. I was so mixed up in trying to find out what was going on with my Mother that I never even thought two heads would have been better than one. I should have asked her where she was going before the game.
"Shit." I muttered, almost in a cry.
"Miss Wood." Snape spoke determinedly and I heard Dumbledore mutter something intelligible to him.
"Can I see her? Are Harry and Ron in there?" I turned on my heels with great speed, almost sending myself over. My head felt dizzy and my brain was busy.
Dumbledore stayed silent for a moment, deliberating in his own mind. A few moments later, he nodded. He hooked his arm around me and walked me into the Hospital Wing. I saw Harry stood at the end of the bed first; he gave me a sad look.
Completely frozen, Hermione's face was still with fear. I quickly moved to her side, putting an arm around Ron who looked completely frightened. My biggest fear, since the message on the wall, had come to light. I hadn't been able to stop the tears running from my cheeks but I stayed silent, feeling quite petrified myself.
"Meet us outside your common room at midnight." Harry whispered to me the second that Madam Pomfrey and McGonagall had given us some privacy. I looked at him with confusion.
"Why?"
"We need to go and see Hagrid. We found a diary belonging to someone called Tom Riddle and when you write in it, he writes back. I asked about the Chamber of Secrets and it dragged me into a memory," Harry began to explain and I was completely baffled. The book dragged him into a memory? "It showed this Riddle bloke catching Hagrid as a student here fifty years ago, when the chamber of secrets was opened before, with a giant spider-like creature. If he opened it before, we may be able to open it again and that's a start. I'm sorry we didn't tell you before but you had enough going on. Now, I think we could really use your help."
