Everything came in splotches. My eyes blurred, focusing on the white-hot noise of silence that covered everything, even the shrieking metal behind me.

A boy was running towards me. Running, and frantically pointing to something I could not see. The ground relinquished its last stand in a hiss of boiling steam, birthing a gaping chasm behind him.

That boy. He was no longer running, but staring helplessly as the shadow above me accelerated its growth, spurred on by gravity.

Why was he still here?

My feet no longer numb, I lunged forward, embracing him. Startled, he attempted to backpedal, and then the building crashed down, nearly breaking my bubble.

It was quiet. No sound, nor beam of light permeated the absolute darkness.
It was unbearably loud. His heartbeat, thundering itself into my chest, the soft pink glow of the bubble protecting us.

We were still entangled. As I slowly, reluctantly extracted myself, the air froze over.

A gasp from him, and I could enter. Shock, confusion, curiosity burned through the space between our minds. We're we're one now, and I poured myself into him.

Home, I was finally home.

-

Soft tufts of coal-black hair. His heart had regained a steady tempo, and so I retracted slightly.

Author's Note:

I wrote this earlier this year, on January 23rd, to be exact.
It was inspired in part by Steven Universe; if you're a fan, I have no doubt you'll know what I'm talking about.
The boy isn't someone I know. He's someone I think of often, and meetings are few and far between.
I do miss him though.
