...It was indeed, an extraordinary coincidence that I met the man who would one day be the king of a nation. It was indeed, an extraordinary coincidence that he allowed me to be a part of his life and that we remained friends all throughout our lives.
It is with great regret however, that I write to you today. For although we lasted through thick and thin together, at the end of it all, his life was forfeited to save the life of another- my own.
People often say that words cannot describe how sorry they are when they hear of a person who suddenly and unexpectedly loses their life. I myself am beyond thought to describe just how sorry I am to have been part of his death, but to apologise for his actions would be dishonouring his sacrifice.
I know that within his heart he knew what was at stake, and that he chose to put the life of another before his own- something that only a true friend, warrior and servant of the people, would do.
Please accept my condolences on this truly melancholy day, and I hope that this letter will serve some purpose to show how much he impacted my life. I know that he will always be in my memories, and in my heart, a great man to all those lives he touched.
With deepest sympathy,
Sir Steven Cross,
Most Esteemed Knight of the Order of the Emerald Crown.
I put down the quill and sighed at the letter. It was the fifth time I had tried to write it and there were many discarded manuscripts of my earlier attempts at writing the dreaded thing.
This kingdom was too new to lose another king so soon. There had only been three officially crowned monarchs in the history of our land. Every other leader before these three had been warlords or tribal leaders- and all these variations of leaders we'd had, helped to ward off invaders from our hard-fought for lands.
Sometimes the memories seem like a blur in my life, but at other times I can remember my years in that kingdom like it was yesterday... I was a sprightly young lad of ten at the time of our second official monarch. I didn't know what I was doing, who I was, or where I was going to be in the future...

[A/N Edit: Inklein here, just cleaning up this old story. It's been 5 years since I edited it and I think I'll have a go at trying to write it again so look forward to that.]

Hey everyone who's reading this, Author's Note here we go:
Thank you for being interested enough to read the prologue. Please, I hope you do read on but there's no pressure to do so, of course!
Alright, so this is my first story on Wattpad so please bear with me if this really short prologue doesn't make sense with the description I gave for this story. It has a purpose and that's why I've made it the first part of this book.
I'm new to the whole Wattpad shebang (sorry, I'm sure there's an alternative word used to describe this but once again, bear with me please). I'm new to both the reading of stories and the writing of stories, so please do not expect me to know about how this all works, because I do not know how this all works.
Okay, I just wanted to put that our there. I'm sure you're all quite used to the new writer explaining that they're a new writer so I won't continue to ramble about it.
I've also posted Chapter One to hopefully make sure this story makes more sense.
Thanks again for reading the prologue!
