I pull myself out of the mounds of pillows surrounding me and to an upright position. My alarm is blaring a suspense track from my favorite scary movie. I turn it off and drag my half asleep limbs into the kitchen.

"Morning Kat," my mom says a little too cheerfully. I reply with a tired "yeah ok," and pour my coffee. Don't get me wrong I love my mom, it's just, she's a morning person. I'm not. I grab the steaming cup of brown liquid and go back to my room.

When I get in there I set down my cup and smooth some moisturizer on my excessively dry skin, and then walk to the shower. I let the room fill with steam as I turn my music on. A heavy bass line fills the room as I hop in the slightly too hot shower. This morning I decide to make it fast so I'm out within a few minutes.

I stand in front of the mirror in my closet wearing a towel as I ponder what I'm wearing today. Oh right, school uniform. Fantastic. I dress quickly making sure to pull my socks all the way up. I slide into my shoes and grab my bag, almost forgetting my coffee on the way out.

As I'm leaving I see my eight year old brother sitting at the table still in his pajamas picking at what looked to be oatmeal. I walked over to him and gave him a quick kiss on the head before calling out a fake-happy "Bye, mom!" and heading out the door.
