Dylan's POV
"Let me go Ma." I say to my mother. She just keeps on holding me. I turn to my dad for help, but he just gives me a look that says 'You're on your own'.
After another minute of strangling from my mom, she finally releases me. As I'm gasping for air, Devani, my little sister, walks out the house with the shortest shorts I have ever seen and a neon green, tight tank top. I know for a fact that Dad will send her right back in the house with those clothes.
Sure enough not even 10 seconds later, my dad sent her back in the house to change into some longer pants.
When Devani comes out, she's wearing ripped jeans. "Much better!" I yell to her. "Come on, I want to get you to campus as soon as possible!" She rolled her eyes at me and took her sweet time walking down the driveway. When she finally goes to the car she hopped in the front seat and put her feet up like she owned my car.
I got this car from my parents when I was 16, and it still looks brand new. It's my first car, so I will not have her stinkin' feet making my car smell bad. "Get your feet off the dashboard!"
"Ok. Fine." She grumbles but puts her feet down.
Mom and Dad walk over to give us one last round of goodbyes. Then we leave.
On the drive there Devani keeps bugging me about my outfit. Asking why I couldn't have worn something better. I thought what I had on was fine though. A simple grey Nike tech suit with some forces. "That is such a basic outfit. You are never going to have a future looking like a bum." I just turned up the radio and listened to my music.
"Can we get some food?" She asked. "Sure, where you wanna go?"
"In-and-Out." She said. Of course, she does. I stopped at the first one I saw, and ordered her meal. And got a large milkshake for myself. Then I kept on driving for about 3 more hours until we got to her dorm.
We had set everything up last week, so she only brought her clothes today. I helped her bring her stuff inside and once we were finished, she ordered some pizza.
"So," I said as I ate my slice of pizza. "You ready for junior year?" She looked over at me. "I guess so. It won't be much different from last year. Me and my friends will probably be more chill, but I ain't tryna do too much this year."
" I feel you." I replied. I looked at my watch, 8:13 PM. "Hey, I gotta head out. But I'll catch up with you later. You gon' be good here?" She put her pizza down, "Yeah."
With that, I left the house and headed over to Turner and I's place. I met Turner when we were 6 and we've played football together all our lives. Sophomore year of college, Turner and I got a big apartment for the both of us.
On the way home, I checked my texts and saw I had a text from Nicole, my high school girlfriend who I broke up with when I decided to go to college here.
Nicole
hey babe, we haven't talked in a while. do you wanna hang out tomorrow??
Received 8:21 PM
That girl will be the death of me, she does this every few months and i'm sick of it. Once I pulled into the parking lot of my building, I texted her back.
You
stop texting me. were not together anymore
Seen 8:22PM
Nicole was the hottest girl I've dated. But she was, and still is, the most clingy person I've ever met. She has black hair, big eyes, and plump lips. If she wasn't a certified psycho, I'd think about getting back with her.
I took the steps up to my apartment and stepped inside. "Turner!" No response, he must still be out. He's been out a lot lately actually, acting all weird. But he gets like that sometimes I guess.
I turn on the game and grab some chips out the cabinet- pantry, whatever it's called.
Around halftime, Turner walks in with the biggest smile on his face. "Man, why you got that stupid grin on your face?" He just keeps on walking to his room and says, "It's called love man. Night." I just turned back to watch the game. Love? When did he have time to find love? I spent the first part of summer by myself at home, cause Devani was out of the house, and the second part at training for football with Turner. I mean, I knew he was chilling with some girl, but love is something else. I just hope he don't get his heart broken.
About 30 minutes later, the game is over, it sucked. I turn off the tv and head to my room. I just throw the football in the air and think for a while. Everything that is happening in my life now and in the future, crosses my mind. Once I get out of college, I'll probably be drafted. My dad one of the best quarterbacks the league had ever seen. But if I don't get drafted I'll have a promising career with my sports biology degree to fall back on.
I mean, both options are great, but something's missing. I don't know if it's a person or a thing. But I have so much going on, school, football, watching over Devani, it's taking a toll on me and leaving me empty. I don't know what to do. But something needs to change.
