My name is Brea West; I'm eighteen. My life would be pretty normal if I didn't live with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia; CLL. My life changed drastically when I was fourteen.
I wasn't feeling too well for a week, I was feeling queasy; my insides were hurting so bad, I had serious fevers. Mom and dad eventually decided to take me to the hospital. After a series of checks and tests, we were informed about the news. I immediately started treatment.
After that day, my parents started treating me differently, everything changed. Everything, even down to the food I ate. They started babying me, the look in their eyes changed every time they looked at me.
I didn't exactly have a social life, but I had a friend; Heath Jackson. Weve been friends since we were little. We practically grew up together. Heath always said he would protect me, and he did until I was fourteen when I found out about my Leukemia. That was the one thing he couldn't protect me from. I didn't hate him for it though.
My parents wanted to withdraw me from school and home school me, they wanted to keep me away from people, so it wouldn't worsen my health, and I didn't want that. I convinced them to let me experience normal high school and they agreed.
The end of senior year is almost here and I plan to make the most of it. Do things I never done before and just move out of my comfort zone. I am finally going to be living my life.
