After brushing my hair out I decided to open a dresser. I found a hair clip and clipped my hair up. I have so many questions.. not many answers. I look outside the window to gaze out the world that had changed so much. I see below me black armored men discussing something. There must be about 12 of them. I turned to the sound of a knock on the door of my room. I got up and opened it to Sadie's worried face. "We need to leave. Now." she said sternly. I grabbed a backpack from a dresser shoved the clothes that were given to us and some toiletries. I ran with Amelia to Emma's room. "Emma we need to go." said Sadie to Emma's frustrated face. Emma followed us to Michael's room. I knocked onto the door and Michael answered it. When I saw him my heart started racing. I couldn't tell Sadie I liked him too. It wasn't right. She's been there for me always and to put myself first I could never do. "We need to leave." I said looking into Michael's eyes losing all of my focus on the situation. We look down the long staircase to see the black armored men talking. I look closer into their suits and read "The Seekers". "Sadie we can't go down.." I whisper to her glaring at the herd of the seekers. "Follow me." Sadie said to us glaring at a window. She opened it slowly and told Emma to grab a blanket from her room and sent Michael with her in case something happened. "Amelia. I overheard the men. They say we're shifters.. Color shifters. We can change our color whenever we want. Our society levels. They know. That's why they're here." She whispers to me. "Where's our family..everybody we knew. Our town?" I asked looking into the window. "I'm not sure." she whispered. Michael and Emma arrive and Sadie grabs the blanket. She wraps it into something we can slide down with and we each go down one by one. Sadie is the last one with nobody to hold the end for her. She almost reaches the bottom safely until the end let's go and she falls. "Ow!" she yelled out of pain. She scratched both her knees. Sadly only Emma knows any medical knowledge and I don't think either of them would be happy to spend a second together. I helped Sadie up. "We need to leave, they're inside and if they we us I don't know what they'll do." Sadie said looking at the three of us. "Why are they after us?" Asked Michael confused. "I'll explain later, now we need to find somewhere safe to stay." Sadie said looking around. I looked around at how my small rundown town has changed. Nothing is the same. I miss my family. Where did they even go? I followed the group down the hill. We walked for almost a mile. "There's no point Sadie, there's nothing around here." Said Emma hopeless. "We need to find something. If you want to die, go turn yourself in." Sadie said looking at Emma with no patience. I never understood the drama between them. They were in third grade, and they're 17 now and still bickering over Michael. I shouldn't judge, I've liked Michael since I was 5. He told me he liked me back, we were kids though I guess he was just playing around. I don't think I'll ever forget that day though. "Hey! A small little cottage." Said Emma pointing at a small shack. "I'll go in first." Said Sadie nervous. "Nah, I'll go." Said Michael with bravery in his voice. He opened the door slowly and rust poured out as the door made a loud noise. A mysterious woman appeared in the doorway. "Excuse me? Who are you?" She said sternly. "Oh. We thought this was empty, I'm sorry. We needed a place to stay." Said Michael. "What is your color?" the woman said looking at us. I looked over at Sadie assuming she knew what to do. "Oh purple." Sadie said. The woman looked at them and left. She slowly lifted the sleeve on her cardigan and showed a black circle. "You see I am just like you. Come in." She said quickly, motioning with her hands to come in. We all walked in. I don't know who this woman is, but she seems like a kind soul. When we walked in her cottage was filled with baked goods. I looked out the window at a broken frustrated world. Inside her cottage was a calm place of peace, she was special. "Where have you came from?" She asked us demandingly. "We have been in a coma for 4 years. We were all in a car crash.." Emma said. "Very interesting. I sensed a long journey from you all. Very well, shall I catch you up?" She said taking a bite of a fresh honey lavender bread slice. "Please do. I'm very confused.." Michael said. And everything started to go to light..
