CHAPTER 1: STORMY NIGHT
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
I stay in the back Hidden beneath the shadows
No matter what's thrown my way
There's nothing I can't handle

The cold winter wind blew strongly against Ashlynn as she ran through the forest during the cold and rough night. The moon was shining brightly as it lit her path back home. Her brownish-blonde hair was tucked into her cape as her feet moved swiftly and softly against the snow so she wouldn't sink in. Her bow was in hand as her sky blue eyes focused on the snow cover path ahead of her.
She let go of the string on her bow suddenly as a 'thud' was heard and a monster laid dead in front of her. Ashlynn looked up at the tree where it fell off. Her eyes scanned the tree around her as she started walking more quickly, sensing more monsters in hiding. Her eyes never left the path as another arrow was notched onto her bow.
Another 'thud' was heard as she released her arrow. She started running, unsure of how outnumbered she will be if they all attack at once. Her eyes continued to scan her surroundings furiously. Another arrow was released into the night as another monster fell. Up ahead, her destination lies.
Her home for the past years. The house that she shared with her best friend, Ellie, in the middle of the most dangerous wood. It wasn't necessary, but it gave them the protection they needed. She risked it for a second and looked back. Her eyes widened when she saw how many of those monsters were chasing her.
Huge dog with sharp razor teeths that can tear you apart in a matter of seconds. Their red eyes locked onto Ashlynn's and she had to remind herself that this isn't Cherubs, her former animal friend. She had to remind herself that those are real hellhounds and they will kill her.
Her paced increased even more as she started running, her medium length hair escaping her caps causing the wind to blow it into her face. Ashlynn cursed under her breath as she continued to run. She was almost there when one hellhound suddenly leaped toward her.
"DUCK!" Her best friend's soft voice called out as Ashlynn did that just in time. A hunting knife embedded themself into the hellhound. Ashlynn didn't have time to celebrate her short victory of not being dead before the rest started growling hungrily at her. Her eyes widened as she made her last step that crossed into the barrier Ellie and her created long ago that blocked out the monsters.
The barrier shone visibly in the moonlight as the monsters continuously threw themself against it. For a second, Ashlynn was scared that they might break though, but she convinced herself otherwise. Ellie ran toward her with an angry look. But a look of concern is also visible on her face.
"What were you thinking?" Ellie demanded as Ashlynn took off her cape and draped it on thor sofa in the living room. She holds out her hands in front of the fire to warm herself up, not bothering to reply to Ellie's question.
"Do you know how dangerous that is?" Ellie asked again, this time more concern than the last. Her curly dark brown hair was in a ponytail as her stormy-grey eyes studied Ashlynn. She sighed as Ellie stood to sit down beside her.
"I was thinking that I need some fresh air," Ashlynn spoke up for the first time that night, her voice firm with no regrets.
"You know you can just go on a walk inside the barrier, right?" Ellie asked softly, a hand on her shoulder. Ashlynn sighed again and nodded.
