"Remember, no one must know our secret. You only let them know when you care for them deeply and would die for them. We are the last and we must stay protected."
I turn in bed and slowly open my eyes. I squint when the sunlight hits my face. Gran gran. I sit up and look at the time. I still have boxes scattered all over my room. I get out of bed and head to the bathroom.
I turn the water to extra hot and get in. I felt the water run down my head, down my body. I push my hair out of my face. "Ugh!" I finished my shower, brushed my teeth, put on some clean clothes, brushed my hair, and did my makeup.
*beep beep* I look over my phone and see a message from Tatsuro. "I hope you're up. We don't want to be late for your first day of classes."
I sighed and got my bag. As I leave my apartment, I text him back. Suddenly, I bump into someone. "Ow." I glare up and see a guy about my age, with strawberry blond hair and light brown eyes, smiling down on me.
"I'm sorry! I didn't see you there." What a fake smile. "Oh, wait I haven't seen you here before? Are you new?"
I glare at him, I bow, and walk away.
"Feisty. Just how I like them." He giggles behind me.
When I'm outside, I see Tatsuro and Ranko. They are siblings and my best friends since I was little. Ranko comes running up to me, "Azumi!" she throws herself at me and hugs me tightly. "I've missed you! How was America! Tell me everything!"
"Hey, Ranko, calm down." Tatsuro walks over and smiles at me. "Hey, Zumi."
I glared at him, "Don't call me that!" I pinched him.
"Oww, okay okay. I'm sorry." He laughs. "Let's go, we'll take you to your class."
Ranko holds my hand, "It's my first year in journalism. I'm really excited. It's Tatsuro's second year in criminal justice, he thinks he's a hotshot or something."
Tatsuro blushes, "I'm not." He clears his throat and looks at me, "You're studying fine arts right? How were the art schools in America?"
"They were fine, normal I guess." I shrug my shoulders.
"Hey, you didn't tell us why you moved back," Ranko asked.
"I missed Japan, so I decided to come back. And because I want to follow down Gran Gran's path." I smiled at her.
"I keep forgetting how famous your great-grandfather is," Tatsuro says shyly.
I nodded, "Remember, I don't want anyone to know who I am related to. It can be dangerous."
They both nodded. "Where's the ring he gave you?" Ranko looks at my hands.
"It's here." I pull my chain and show them. "I wear it like this so nobody can see it. I don't want to grab attention."
"Wow! What a pretty ring!" I quickly turn around and see Fake Smiles, smiling at me. "Where did you get it?"
I glared at him, "Are you following me?"
He shook his head, "I'm heading the same way."
"Azumi, that's Hiro! Hiro Sarashina. He's also an art major, and well known throughout the school." Ranko giggles, "It was a gift from her great-grandfather."
"Ranko!" Both Tatsuro and I yell at her. She looks away.
"It has nothing to do with you." I glare at him and walk away. Hiro smiles and turns the corner.
"School's this way," Ranko tells him.
"I don't feel like going." He gives Ranko a shining smile, "I'll see you around." He winks at me and walks away.
"You're always so grumpy." Ranko pouts.
"No, I'm not, I'm just overprotective." I look at Tatsuro for help.
"Uh, yea. You know how Zumi gets when no good guys hit on you." I agree with Tatsuro and it seemed to work. Ranko goes back to being her cute self.
After school was done, I headed straight home. I still had so much to do. When I got to the building, I opened my mailbox and a letter fell out. I picked it up and read the back of it, "The Black Foxes are coming for you."
I grinned and threw the letter in the trash. They must already be upstairs, and that van that I saw must be with them. I walked out of the building and walked past the van. A guy with light blond hair and golden eyes accidentally looks at me. I smirked at him and walked away.
I turn a corner and feel him following me. I took a couple more turns and hid. "Shit." I hear him tapping on something. "Guys, I lost her. I'mma head back and check to see if she's going somewhere else." He sighs and starts to walk away.
I quietly creep up and grab him by the neck and slam him against the wall. "Who are you and why are you following me?" I glared at him.
He looks at me surprised. I grab him harder and he finally speaks, "I'm part of the Black Foxes, we were waiting for you. As said by your great-grandfather."
"My great — grandfather?" He nodded, "I don't believe you." I was getting irritated, when all of a sudden I felt someone stick a needle in my neck.
I let go and turned to see three other guys. "You bastards." I try to back away but I stumble.
"Amazing, she's holding longer than most," I remember that voice, when I look up I see Fake Smiles looking at me shocked. You! I tell him with my eyes.
I have to getaway. I try my best to get away from them, "No, you don't. You're coming with us." The one with messy black hair and blue-gray eyes comes up next to me.
"She is still not falling." The one with short brown hair and brown eyes comes from behind and looks at me with concern.
"Are you sure, you used the right dosage?" Fake Smiles asks the guy with brown hair.
"Yea." I couldn't hold myself any longer. Shit. Once I wake up, I'll kill them myself. The next thing I knew, everything went black.
