Natelie/Cho Hayoon POV:
Entering a new space: nothing new to me.
Today, I will start in a new place yet again, Australia. I am probably too used to this for my own good, but it makes me feel at ease. For the past 16 years of my life, I have moved at least 10 times. When we started moving it would only be around South Korea but gradually "our map" started to expand. For example, the first couple of places we moved to were Seoul, Jeju, Daegu, etc., but that slowly started to change since we soon began moving out of the country. First, we moved to Europe when I was 12 years old and stayed there for around a year then moved to the US, later Japan, Russia, Greece, etc. Now here we are in Australia. I keep saying we but who is this we? Well, it's my family; my mom, dad, and my annoying 18-year-old brother Cho Donghyun.
Every single time we moved I had this small desire to stay, but I soon got rid of it knowing I can't do anything about it since dad has to keep working. He works as a cameraman and photographer so we always have to move where he gets a job since we don't want to be separated, which was decided years ago. The longest time I've stayed in was Busan, my birthplace. We stayed there till I turned 5 before starting to move around in Korea.
I tend to not get attached to the friends I make since I never know when I'll have to leave them. This is to not make myself heartbroken but of course as well as them. I still love making friends though, I love learning about their cultures from them, interacting, it's a great experience every time since we usually have a language barrier. Though, not this time since I learned English during our time in the US.
Right now, I am waiting to go into my new class to introduce myself.
"Natalie, can you please come in now?" My new homeroom teacher, Ms. Jones calls from the inside of the classroom after explaining to the rest of the class that there would be a new student. A couple of weeks after the semester started; suspicious to them and normal to me.
Once I am in front of the class next to Ms. Jones, I introduce myself, "Hello, my name is Natalie Cho. I am from Busan, South Korea." I say in fluent English which made many people shocked, telling from their faces also they all clapped.
"Okay Natalie, please take a seat next to Jake." Ms. Jones says to me pointing to a handsome boy in the middle back row, next to him an empty seat contrary to the rest of the class since that was the only unoccupied desk. 'Cute,' I thought eyeing the boy she pointed at.
While making my way to my sit Ms. Jones continues talking a conversation directed to the rest of the class, my new classmates, "I hope you all can treat her nicely for the time she'll be with us."
2 minutes later the announcements started and my seatmate, Jake, started to converse with me. "Hello, my name is Jake nice to meet you," Jake tells me in broken Korean.
"You know Korean?" I reply in Korean shocked.
"A little I've been learning." He answers in English, I could tell he was not so comfortable with the language.
"Well, if you need any help or have doubts just ask me," I say with a smile.
"Thank you, and if you need help around the school just ask me. Or if you need help with English even though it seems like you don't just ask me." Jake replies with the most beautiful and brightest smile I had seen, then a few seconds later continues extending his hand for a handshake, "Wanna be my friend?"
"Of course!" I say taking his hand.
First day of school: Perfect.
