looking up, bennett smiled at edward from behind the smoke of the oven warmly.

"hi, my name's bennett broering. nice to meet you!" he removed the oven mitt from his hand, sticking it out, waiting patiently.

edward took it, grinning back, "so you're the ben i've heard so much about? it's a pleasure."

"aw bell, you talked about me!" the boy in question smirked at his best friend, edward tightening the grip he had on the table ever so slightly.

i'm not gonna give you shit, reader, and pretend that my lovely oc is "special" or has any "gifts". we all know that edward knew everything about ben as soon as his mind unfolded like a flower in front of him.

and he also knew exactly what bennett thought about his own affluent fiancée.

edward was pitiful.

but a teeny, tiny part of him was thanking the stars that bennett hadn't made his move. edward didn't have a single doubt that his isabella would've turned him down.

"well, isn't this grand," bella muttered, tensing her shoulders at the immediate awkwardness of the situation, "well, i'll be in my bedroom cleaning up. you guys can have a little chat or... whatever."

bennett glared at her retreating back harshly. he'd been in her bedroom enough times to know that it was in a perpetual state of cleanliness.

edward stiffened at bennett's thoughts almost instantaneously, and with his stiffness came a piece of the broken marble. he gasped quietly, the only hint to bennett that something was wrong.

"oh my god," bennett moved hurriedly to edward first, arm stretching out as if he was afraid to initiate physical contact. edward simply stared at the horrified boy, no emotions on his face as he held out his perfect alabaster hand crushing the marble still.

"here- let me get the first aid kit- "

"oh, my god. i told you two to have a chat, not break my table. i didn't even mention my marital status either, what's got you two so worked the hell up?" bella appeared from the stairs, apparently from bennett's half screech, half whisper.

"it's not my fault," the brunet boy scowled at her, before turning back to edward's hand and wincing, "lets get you to the hospital. quickly. how the hell aren't you freaking out right now?"

edward exchanged a quick, albeit caught glance with his fiancé-

fiancé. ugh.

"i'm fine, bennett," edward spoke in a swirling tone now, one meant to soothe a toddler, completely the opposite of the upbeat introduction only moments before, "it'll heal fast. i should get going, anyway."

"bu-"

"it was real nice meeting you," he smiled once more, showing all of his perfectly straight teeth this time, before standing up and gathering his coat in a single, swift, motion, and then practically dashing out of the door.

"his hand, bells," bennett's jaw dropped lower than his self confidence, "wh- you can't let him go like that. now, i know that i didn't see the actual woun-"

"shhh," bella interrupted, "it's all okay, his dad's a doctor. he'll be fine, ben. c'mon, lets go play a board game? charlie isn't going to be back for a while."
