Over the years Emma and Killian played together along with another young boy named August with Killian always chasing after Emma, and when they were 7 Emma overheard her parents talk about the marriage and the kingdoms uniting. At this point, she didn't have any interest in marrying anyone let alone some boy she had been playing with for years.
So it went on for years, Killian chasing Emma and Emma chasing Killian until Killian had to leave for the war to protect his parents' kingdom. One stormy day Killian's mother had fallen ill and while giving birth to his younger brother she succumbed to her illness all while Killian's father was on the battlefield and got stabbed at the same time.
