"So, how long am I waiting?" Alex was holding Takai in his arms, her smile slightly calming the nervous wreck of a man.
"We'll make it official when I get back from the scouting run, after that we'll have the Captain officiate the wedding." She raised her head and kissed her fiance.
Alex began to show his worry again, tightening his grip on Takai. "I should go with you, an extra O.D.S.T. won't hurt your mission."
"But not having their leader will hurt your team." Takai looked at Alex while rolling her eyes.
"Fuck them, I never cared for those three anyways." This made Takai raise her eyebrow while laughing.
"Right, it's not like you can't be seperated from them for more than a few weeks before acting like a toddler." Alex just chuckled lighlty, knowing she was somewhat correct. "I'll be fine Alex, besides, your love is all the protection I need; it's what I use to continue pushing to live."
Alex hugged her as tightly as he could, Takai returning the hug before she needed to breath. "Just come back to me, that way I can add "First Dad" to my contest wins with the others."
Having finally letting go of one another, Alex watched Takai enter her pelican; somehow knowing that her smiling at him as the pelican closed the hatch was the last time he would ever see her alive....
He turned around, now in a black suit feeling as though a fist was clenched around his heart.
"Mr. Franks, I know this isn't the best time, but we've finally retrieved the helmet of the deceased; we were able to salvage some of the feed from her camera. We believe you may want to see what happened." The man talking to him was obviously ONI, cold and emotionless with a militaristic feeling coming from him. "Please come with me."
Alex knew better than to argue with ONI, he's heard enough of the stories from the Spartan III's to know what horrors they commit in the name of "humanity's survival".
After an hour of paperwork and agreeing to never talk about what he sees, Alex finally gets to see what happened to his wife.

"-ou not to do that."
"Ma'am, there seems to be a covenant scout ahead of us."
"That isn't right, the cove-"

Alex stared at the static filled screen in anger. "What happened!?"
"Sit down, the video will return soon." The man still showed no emotion, almost as though he wasn't human.
"-at the fuck!?"
"What the hell are those things!?"
"Is this what Chief warned about? The Flood?"
Alex watched in horror as the Flood swarmed his fiancé's crashed Pelican, tearing them apart before reanimated their bodies as monstrosities.
