The road was long and hopeless. Many times we felt like giving up and going back but we pushed on. We were walking together one cool evening in early June when Adali suddenly gave a bark of joy. We all looked round as he started sprinting for a small black dot on the horizon. All five of us grabbed a pup and followed closely behind. As we ran over a steep hill then we all stopped. There before us was a vast forest. We trotted inside and let the puppies sniff around. The trees looked almost black in the ever shrinking sunlight. The leaves were greener than a freshly sprouted sapling, and there were purple flowers covering the forest floor stretching for as far as I could see. This was what we had been looking for. This was safe....
This was home.
