The day had been ok until we got the call. The time had come just sooner than we thought. We all got in the car and headed to the hospital and fast as we could. When we got to the hospital, we rushed strait to his room. "DAD!" John yells as he open the door with me and my parents behind him. "J-John" said his dad, with a life less voice, John ran to his bedridden father with his hand extended. I walked in behind John and with an apple in my throat said " h-hey".
"John I'm sorry. I wish I could be here to watch you grow and become an amazing hero." His dad said while holding Johns hand. Hearing him say that reminded me of what my great grandma said a few months back. (" Ben, I'm sorry I can't be here to watch you grow. But no matter what I will always be with you"). John and I both started crying. " Can you guys go outside for a minute. We want to talk to Johns dad" my mom said. We nodded and head out.

John and I were born two days apart. Our parents were best friends and had been since they were our age. Johns mother died from child birth, and that had been really hard on his father. But since our parents were so close they help his dad out, and because of that John and I had known each other since we were born. And we had form a best friend/ brother bond. We were inseparable, and he had formed somewhat of a bond with my mom since his was gone.  And a year ago Johns dad was diagnosed with brain cancer. He had done chemotherapy to treat it, but there was come complications. There are "normal" symptoms for doing chemo, but the go away over time. Johns dad symptoms didn't go away, there were actually getting worse and causing other complications. So a week ago he went to the doctors to see if it can be helped, but his condition worsened even at the hospital and they had agreed that today would be his last day alive.

A few minutes later back in and got some news. "John your going to be living with us now. We don't want you too to get separated." My parents explained. John looked up with tears in his eyes and said "thank you". He then walked over to his dad and grabbed his hand. " Dad when you go... tell mom I said hi, ok." He then begin sobbing uncontrollably and I couldn't help but do the same. His dad then looked at him and with his last breathe said " Ok, Big J." Then the line went flat and his dads face was smiling and he had his thumbs up.

After a few minutes we left the hospital, and headed to Johns house. My parents were going to grab adoption appear while me and him go pack him some more clothes. We made the decision to have his dad Cremated since his mom was too. When we got to his house we sulked up the stairs to John room. When we opened the door we noticed a box on his bed with a card.
In the box was two hand made necklaces, and a key to there basement.  We opened up the card read it.

Dear John,
If you are reading this, then that means I am no longer with you.  These necklaces are made for you and Ben. They are to symbolize your friendship and bond you have. They also represent your quirks, one black dragon and one white dragon. You boys have good hearts and will become great hero's. And possibly comedians with your sense of humor. You are capable of amazing things, just remember that we will always be smiling down and cheering you on.

Love Dad.

After reading that we couldn't take it, he broke down and screamed. I have never seen my friend so sad, so I sat down next to him and he cried himself to sleep.
