Louisa who is a highly motivated, strong, career driven person, feels like she is crumbling as she tries to balanc...
My eyes scanned the copious words on the paper. It felt as though I'd read it a hundred times already, knowing each word by heart. I pulled my bottom lip between my teeth, my leg bobbing up and down as a strange feeling pooled in my stomach.
I wasn't sure whether it was nerves or excitement, but the two emotions tangled together, clouding my judgment.
"Don't worry. You'll be fine."
The understanding voice snapped me out of my thoughts, and I lifted my head. Seeing Calum's warm, friendly smile instantly relaxed me. He placed his hand over mine, and I finally managed to still the jittering in my legs.
My gaze drifted back to the piece of paper in front of me. After endless interviews, I had finally received a job offer. Right there was my contract. As a career-driven person, it was only natural that I wanted to exceed expectations and do my absolute best.
I was determined to succeed—not only for myself, but for my boyfriend, Calum. He'd been with me throughout school and college, spending endless days by my side. Somewhere along the way, that closeness had automatically branded us as boyfriend and girlfriend, and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
"What if they realise I'm underqualified? What if they don't like me? What if—"
"Louisa, relax," Calum interrupted my spiralling thoughts. "You got this job because you're great. You smashed the interview, and AP Enterprise will be lucky to have you."
I nodded, letting out a shaky breath. "You're right. I'll be fine." I paused before looking at him. "What about you? Have you heard back from any of the jobs you applied to?"
Calum sucked in a breath, squinting slightly as he shook his head.
"What?" I sighed. "We're supposed to be moving in together in a month. We need money for the deposit."
"I know. I'm working on it," he replied, trying to reassure me. "You've got a job secured, so we have nothing to worry about. Don't stress—I'll have a job by the time we buy our apartment."
I tilted my head, furrowing my brows as I met his eyes, silently letting him see how much I cared—how much I wanted him to succeed. I often wished he were as career-driven as I was. But that was where we differed. While I wanted to push myself and climb higher, he preferred a laid-back life with minimal effort.
As the last of my nerves swirled inside me, a spark of courage began to build. I felt ready to take this new step in life. The anticipation of what AP Enterprise had in store for me replayed over and over in my mind.
Stepping into the adult world was daunting, but I was ready to embrace it—with Calum by my side. I didn't know what life had in store for me, but I was ready.
