"Chija!" I shouted, about to go to her.
"Stop! She's gone!" My friend yelled, pulling me back.
"No! She's still in there!" I cried. "Chija!"
I started running toward her with tears in my eyes.
"Kwan! You're gonna get hurt if you get too close!"
She ran to me, grabbed my arm, and pulled me back to hide behind the bleachers.
"No!" My tears ran down my face. "Somi... I need her... I love her..." I cried silently.
"I know... But you can't save her..."
Hearing that, made my heart break into a million pieces.
Let's go back to the beginning...
When I woke up that morning I thought it would be a normal day, but the moment I walked into the school my thoughts were proven wrong. As I entered, someone bumped into me and when she looked up and our eyes met, my heartbeat escalated.
"I'm sorry..." She said in a quiet voice, looking down.
"No, it's my fault. I should've watched where I was going."
Her gaze remained downcast.
"Are you new here?" I asked.
She nodded.
"My name is Kwan, what's yours?" I asked.
"Chija."
She almost sounded tired.
"Are you okay?" I asked with concern.
I thought she wouldn't answer but then she finally looked up and said.
"Yes. I'm okay."
As time went on, my friend, Somi, and I got to know her. The three of us became inseparable. We stood up for each other and had a lot of fun.
I thought Chija opened up to us about herself, but she would often come to school with bruises and wouldn't say who did it. Somi and I were suspicious, so we decided to go over to her house one weekend.
"What if she gets mad that we came here?" Somi whispered to me with worry written all over her face.
"Don't worry," I said.
Though I have to admit, I was a bit worried myself.
Right as I was about to knock on the door, I heard someone scream in horror "Chija!". It sounded like a female but I didn't recognize the voice.
I knocked loudly. A man opened the door and my heart dropped at the sight behind him.
"I'm sorry, this isn't a good time..." He said, and was about to close the door, but I pushed past him.
"Chija! Stop!" I shouted.
She had a knife pointed towards herself. She immediately froze when she heard my voice and her beautiful eyes looked into mine, as tears fell. I slowly walked up to her, took the knife, put it down, and hugged her.
After the incident, she started changing. She became distant and cold and stopped talking. Then she stopped coming to school and when I went to her house she wasn't there either.
I couldn't understand why. What happened?
To be continued...
