Dimitri's POV
"It is snowing like a motherfucker out there, " the mutt mumbled against the window. I watched as he used the palm of his hand and wiped the mist from the glass. With my hands folded behind my back, I walked up and stood beside him, shoulder to shoulder. I watched as the blizzard left its mark on the land outside.
It was still noon-time, but the sky above was dark and the clouds were thick and black, casting an even darker shadow over the fields and beyond. "Yes, it is. I must say this blizzard is even worse than what the human from the telly had promised, " I continued to watch thick white snowflakes being battered as they whirled around in the hurricane-force winds. "Blizzard hardly seems an adequate enough word for what the world outside has become, " I ridiculed.
The mutt turned to look at me, " Can you not talk like that. You sound so fucking old, " he complained.
"But I am old, young mutt. I am over a century years old, " I deadpanned. I still had my eyes on the storm outside. The mutt gave me an incredulous look that I happened to catch from my peripheral. "Don't look so stupefied, wolf. Us vampires have long lifespans."
"I know this, bloodsucker. I just thought you were at least 25 because you look so young."
"It's just the way we age. I stopped ageing normally when I became 10. I will look to be the age of 35 when I become 150."
"So you age slowly?"
"Yes, but this only applies to vampires like myself; ones that are born and not created. Our lifespan can go up to 5000 years. For those you are bitten, they can live up to 1500, maybe 2000 years, and they age a lot faster than us." The wolf nodded his head, and we began to watch the blizzard again. I was grateful to be in the safety of the mansion. The storm was getting brutal.
Outside reminded me of one of those Christmas ornaments with the snow. I remembered I had a few in my possessions when I was a small child. The Christmas one was my favourite... Ah! Yes, the snow globe. I watched as the outside became a real-life snow-globe.
The snow became so thick, that the dancing trees became the confetti instead of the twirling snowflakes. Then it hit me, I was not alone. I was one of the many creatures in this world and the world was filled with interesting things to see, to touch and to feel. I lost my love for life and hope when I thought it took Zoey from me.
Zoey, I thought to myself. She was what kept my mind anchored in time and space. As the white flakes continued to swirl around in an angry vortex, I kept seeing my love's face.
"Zoey, " the mutt whispered. It was like he was reading my mind or was thinking the same thing I was; Zoey had to be found. I placed my cold hand on his shoulder, I felt him tense beneath my icy touch. I craned my neck towards him, he did the same and for the first time since I've known this pooch, I saw something in his eyes that I could relate to. Determination and for that I respected him. We both nodded our heads at our unspoken communication. We didn't need to exchange words at that moment, we both knew what the morning would bring.
That was the reason why I suggested this game night adventure. Think of it as the calm before the storm.
We both averted our eyes back to the swirling storm of screaming silver, I felt Zander relax under my touch. I finally felt like we were bonding, but then his beta had to come and ruin our moment.
"Well, well, well. You never see smoke without fire, " my hand quickly fell from Zander's shoulder, and we both turned to see Carson, he had his annoying grin plastered over his stupid face. "Tell me, Alpha, do you have a thing for vampires now?" He chuckled. The alpha growled at him and then I saw Hazel hurried to his side. She jumped in his arms and he instantly lit up. I wondered if it was because she was his mate that he reacted like that or was it simply because it was her? Hazel did things to me too that I could not quite explain.
